Dumb question, did you leave the stock magnet on there and bonded the new stronger magnet directly to the old magnet or did you somehow remove the stock magnet?

    TIA

I actually bought new plugs without any magnets and bonded them on.

FYI, the long magnets are very weak.

There's a longer one they use on the new rav4 transfer case, but I don't trust the magnet on a truck.

What is it that you don’t trust?

I left the transfer case alone meaning I didn’t bond a magnet to that plug. I didn’t think it would be necessary there. The transfer case fluid remains cleaner much longer than does the differential fluids.

I purchased a couple of the strong disc magnets, and let them hang onto the outside of the plugs on my GMC. The whole plug becomes magnetic, and holds anything steel that gets close to it, no risk of the magnet being loose in the sump, and it is simple to remove the magnet when it is time to drain it. The oil pan plug had a lip on it, it was easy to file it flat, and the magnet really hangs on tightly. I will do the same with the Taco when I change the fluids. I plan to use a Fumoto valve, so I will apply the magnet to the pan itself, near the drain. Just an option…

That is awesome. Can you list out the diameters of the magnets that you used for the plugs you modified? I think I might try this on my next driveline oil service. Thanks

I didn’t use the OEM rear differential plug but used the low profile plug circled in red instead.
