So I am changing the gear oil in my 08 4x4 rear diff. Went through the steps, drain, fill until it drains out of the filler hole, put plug back in, let it drain back in the housing, take plug back out, start filling again, starts to drain out again, BUT when I put my pinky finger in the fill hole there feels like there is no level right below the filler hole. But it is still draining out. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

I would go with the fact that it is draining out . Sometimes its deserving to the touch. Just my .02 cents.

Thanks, that's kind of what I thought. I dropped the drain plug twice and drained it below the full plug and re filled it and the same thing happened every time. Just checking to make sure. I just bought the truck a few months ago and am now changing all the fluids.

Drive it a day or two and check it again . If it still drains out of the fill plug then you are good to go .

You are overthinking it. The truck is maintainable by Afghan "cave men".

Lol I told my wife a couple hours ago when I came back from the garage the third time from draining and refilling I was probably "overthinking it because it's the first time I've done the change to this truck"......hahaha

    You are definitely overthinking it.
