I didn't really have anything out of the norm. I don't usually get my truck service at the dealer, but I was getting my oil change done the other day and notice the rear diff was leaking. Set an appointment with Toyota. For rear leaking diff and driver door/window noise at cross winds. Without any fighting they are replacing the whole rear diff and driver and passenger window stripping. Just curious how many trucks out there just received a gasket and a retorque? Luckily I am at 31k miles and warranty is almost up. Check your Rear diffs before warranty is up!

Did the new window stripping take care of the cross wind noise?

I wont get my truck back till Wednesday. I won't know. The advisor told me that someone else had issues and they replaced it and it went away. He stated it was a updated version.

Anyone here with 2016-2017’s have their rear dif gears break while just accelerating hard?(it was not dry, towing or hauling). I was at a Toyota dealer and saw what was left of one that did, wondering if it’s happened to others? That’s a new one to me...

Yeah, that can definitely be it. Only weird thing I get driving is when the car is stuck on the hill and it slips back and makes all that crazy noise.

My taco just got retorqued. I've been keeping an eye on it though. No visible sign of leak so far.

Do it sooner rather than later. If it's a visible leak they will replace the gasket/seal...more than just a re-torque. That's my understanding at least.

If they just retorqued it then the problem is still there. I went in for my free 10,000 mile oil change and they told me that there was a problem with the rear diff leaking but there was no sign of seeping in mine. The procedure was to just retorque it if there was no sweepage. There was no sweepage so they retorqued it. Fast foward to 19,000 miles on oil change #2 and now they find a small leak this time. They replaced all the gaskets and washers with brand new ones and drained and refilled with brand new diff fluid. They told me they could only retorque it if there was no problem or sign of leaking and the leaking could only show AFTER a couple more thousand miles of driving it. They kept my truck for a day and gave me a free loaner. Kinda stupid but yeah...What im saying is make them replace your diff with the recall with all brand new parts for the diff!

These are all the parts that they replaced in the diff. If they didnt replace these parts then they didnt fix it and the leaking will come later. I would just try to get them to fix it now so you dont have to worry about it anymore to be honest.

They said it was a window/ door seal. He stated a other tacoma owner had issues at one of the crosswinds near the freeway and they replaced it went away. Stated there was a updated door/window seal and they will put it on.

My understanding is the Off road are not part of the recall thats why they probably didn't want to mess around and replaced it. They stated Toyota Corporate approved it
