My 2017 has it. Tsb done minimized it. Still running strong at 50t miles. Only thing I did to eliminate it is installing duratrac tires. Now I can no longer hear the rear diff howl. All I hear is the tires.

My truck was silent on stock gears. Got the howl when I went 4.88. It’s not bad, but I know now what people are complaining about. Interestingly, now that my ear is tuned to listen for the howl, I found my co-workers completely stock 2015 TRD Sport 2nd gen howls worse than my 3G on 4.88s, so my problems are not real problems.

Changing oil to 90w110 helped a bunch on mine. Also, mine howls from the tires.

my truck does that once in a while. I don't let that petty shit ruffle my boardshorts. Not so much a howl. More of a harmonic tuning fork ringing. Pretty sure it's B#

Is this howl an automatic thing only or have people noticed it with manuals too? I haven't noticed anything other than a weird high pitched noise at certain rpms, but I think that might be something to do with the AC.

my manual howls between 56-59mph the loudest.

I’ve noticed that fresh rear diff fluid made a huge difference in quieting the howl.

Imo it’s not a big deal, just a minor annoyance. When listening to radio you can’t even hear it.

Easy fix: Locate the knob on the left side of your head unit and rotate clockwise until the howl ceases.

I've head this sound on my 19 or for a while, got the whole the diff replaced under warranty and the noise still came back.
Just took it back in to get it looked at and I'm having a hard time convincing them the noise is not from the camper shell and rock sliders

Has anyone had any actual damage caused by this or is everyone in agreement it's just a sound these trucks are gonna make?

I could care less about the annoyance, just want to make sure this won't cause damage in the long run.

    A few.
My 2019 has done it since new. Currently at 57k miles without any issue. It seems to have been agreed upon that the howling sound is from harmonics. One possible fix to eliminate it or at least lessen it is changing the rubber dampers at the back of the cab between the cab and the frame.

I’ve never heard said howl. I suggest aging your ears. Attend more rock concerts and shoot more guns without ear protection.
