I feel bad for all the folks out there that took there Tacoma in for a service appt and got there vehicle taken hostage  ! Another reason why I am very grateful for Tacomaworld and all the staff for creating such an awesome site for discussion and helpful information!

The recall notice hasn't even been mailed out yet as the final solution has been in the works since the initial bulletin. According to my service guy last week he said they are still waiting for parts and also mentioned they plan to pull all diffs for a visual inspection weeping or dry like mine i.e.

    IMG_2478.jpg
^^^ a few hostages here at one of three dealerships on my island

Edit: If anyone has an appointment for anything at the dealership this month with a weeper , cancel it and wait for July or August so they can catch up on all the hostages.
And for peace of mind make an appointment with a rental for a truck because you can't do your job with a sedan.

    Peace

Strange. They all have dealer ad plates on the front. Are you sure those aren't for sale.

That sounds off coming from someone like him (rebuilding his own diff on 1968 gto) who otherwise acts totally naive or unable to handle simple maintenance items such as simple diff bolt tightening and prefers to spend days at the stealership over b/s items.
And yet, still manages to spread all the nonsense from the voices he hears on his head here like confusing diff noise to the noise coming from his Kevlar tires, and getting susceptible ppl all worked up over all the other strange noises he hears.
    Strange, real strange.

Just a FYI to anyone who is going to be torquing down there rear differential make sure you do it in the star pattern starting from bottom to top.

I wanted to add mine. My truck is on the recall list as well. when inspected, there is minor seepage around the gasket, so it will need to be replaced, however, apparently mine was not considered bad enough to take the truck from me. I am allowed to continue to drive the truck until the new hardware comes in.

What?!? I didn't have anything drip and they played the "Toyota will not be responsible for any damage if you drive away" card.

    Lucky duck.

Meanwhile, I'm certain my rental car is trying to get me killed. I must kill it first!

My advisor said ''I could probably spit more seepage than you actually have, but according to Toyota it is still qualifies for recall." Look at it this way, at least we will come out of this with a new gasket and fresh rear diff oil for free.

I currently am in a loaner tundra while they fix the hood vibration issue. I told them I had to have a truck and that a camry wouldn't cut it. I love the Tundra, but it just isn't the same...the refinement is there, but it just isn't my tacoma lol. sorry to hear they impounded Capt Ameritruck though. think they are doing crazy experiments on it?

My service advisor is the Red Skull. We're going to chat today when I go in to try to replace this Corolla with something (anything) else.

So mine was inspected last weekend and I have slight seepage also and the dealer just torqued the bolts and said the gasket does not need replaced and to just keep an eye on it...

every dealer is different. if they want to do the work they will say it needs to be changed. if they don't want to then they will say its fine

In for the 3rd fix, Toyota now says the leak is not enough for them to fix
