I drive an 04 Tacoma prerunner. It has a rear differential locker (I believe stock). So I clicked/pressed the read diff lock button the other day and the ABS lights turns on, but the read diff lock light on the gauge cluster blinks. I drive forward and it doesn’t engage. But when I start to turn the truck I hear the diff lock almost like a snap into gear. I and the same to turn it off. Do I need to replace the diff lock? I’m hoping not too since it’s like $800. Or do I need to maintenance it? If so how do I go about doing so? Or could it be something else?

that is normal operation for the factory rear locker. You need to turn slightly to spin the wheels at different speeds so the locking collar can mesh. Just don't do it a high rate of speed or on high traction surface and you'll be fine.
