Wow, I couldn't imagine locking up a rear end on the 110! I drive it at least once a week going from work to some stores around the area. Were you up near South Pasadena or down near LAX where it becomes a real freeway?

Ahhh, but then there would never have been a post about the problem, thereby proving the problem does not really exist.

A life-altering crash may have been sufficient, but thankfully the OP survived intact and internet skepticism is minor compared to what could have happened.

Glad OP is OK, and 3 major problems in the first year is Lemon Law time (I think some states require the same problem 3 times, so investigate your options)

I would hope he clarified this. From his responses it happened past the 10, in the below grade downtown segment, near the exits for 3rd/4th/Wilshire Blvd. He says he was going towards the exit for the 5, though for that he would have to be in the #5 or 6 lane, which are for the 5/60/101SB ramp. At that point you would only be in the #1 lane if your goal was to stay on the 110 parkway to Pasadena.

Again, the story bothers me because i know that section, I used to live a stones throw from there, and there is no left breakdown lane to avoid a collision or have room for a fishtail. This is about 3/4 of a mile from where the OP stated the incident happened, in the #1 lane. I took this while back when the Korean Air tower was being built.

Second pic is from Google maps of the spot the OP describes the incident taking place.

I think it's Toyota's fault but I also think it's the dealers fault. That's why they have predelivery inspection checklist and check all the fluids is on there to safeguard against something like this happening . the fluid level not getting filled at the factory then getting delivered from the dealer with no oil that's two safety nets that failed.

OK guys, im mistaken. If the OP was going to the 5 NB ramp near Dodger Stadium, he would be in the #1 lane.

HOWEVER, the sign clearly states NO TRUCKS. OP's fault in this incident confirmed.

That 5 North exit from the 110 North is a bitch. The #1 lane is exit only and the #2 lane is option exit. They are both RIGHT after the thrid tunnel and it's a sketchy turn. That means it probably locked up INSIDE one of the tunnels, right?

No wait, he was going from the 10 to the 110? I am so confused

No. I was on the 110 north heading for the 5 north but the lock up occurred by the 101 interchange, around 3rd street.

Due to all this, I went to my trusted shop to get the trans and diff fluids checked. We performed the exact steps outlined in the service tech manual with the pin 4 and 13 jumped and N to D to N for 6 seconds and all (right temp). Glad to say all my fluids were filled. One thing I did note is that the driveshaft and rear end had a sticker that says Manufactured by Hino, which is the commercial grade Toyota.

None of this really adds to OP's post, but I thought I'd throw that in.

Hello everyone. I just read that Toyota is recalling 2016-2017 Tacomas for Rear Differential issues. Hmmmm.. So to everyone that doubted me GFY!!

By the way, Toyota did buy my vehicle back as a Lemon, which is why I went silent. I was advised to stop posting by my attorney.

Good luck with your Taco's. I miss mine.

I bought a Toyota Prime. My commute changed to 32 miles each way and it allows me to get drive in the carpool lanes here in LA and that helps get past the congestion. I almost bought the Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon but....
