Hey guys so I am about to pull the trigger on changing the rear differential oil myself what better way to start my morning.
So of coarse I called the dealer and they are selling me some generic differential oil 4 quarts and 2 washers for $62 OTD and that’s including a 15% discount lol

I called another dealer and the service guy said to not put synthetic because it is going to mess up the rear differential

My truck is a 2012 double cab pre runner with 93000 miles I believe the differential oil has never been changed I know I know what a turd.
I was reading couple of threads and some of the owners are running synthetic others are not any personal experience or inputs are more than welcome

I'm using AmsOil Synthetic in my differentials, more that 5 years and the wheels are still turning.

I changed mine at 85k miles and it wasn’t that dirty - I could’ve gone more miles IMO. I changed it with Redline 75W85 synthetic and I’m totally happy with it - it’s the exact same weight as recommended in 2013 owners manual. 75W90 Mobil synthetic is also one of the most commonly mentioned brand/weight here which I have no doubt of high quality and would have no problem using.

It’s to remove a stripped front diff drain plug with the 10mm hex fitting. Kaon tool.

The dealer probably paid $3/qt from their supplier and is trying to charge you $15/qt for dyno diff fluid...what a joke, no wonder nobody trusts them.

Supertech gear oil is more than good enough for diff fluid. Only places that I put more expensive fluids are the manual transmission (Redline MT90) and transfer case.

I spring for the Lucas dino oil but it’s still pretty cheap at about $6/qt.

I don't know if I posted the pictures correctly but the kaon tool worked perfectly. Great investment.

That's the plug it was able to bite into and remove.
