Rear Differential Plugs

Anyone had trouble braking loose their differential plugs? I'm trying to change the oil and can't get the fill plug to budge. Just hit it with some PB Blaster.

We will see. Using 24mm 1/2" socket 6 point. Feels like a knuckle buster waiting to happen.

My new torque wrench has helped on every stuck bolt on my truck. Then again, you have a 2000, so it may be a bit more glued on.

 

Had the exact same issue with mine. I was worried about rounding off the nut with the socket I was using. Not a while lot of need for a 24mm socket AND box end wrench, but that is where I thought I was headed (lucky for me there is a sears a mile up the road). I shot some PB break free on it and let that soak in which finally got it done.

 

Get a socket that fits really well. Use muscle and a longer ratchet.

Oh yeah, never use a torque wrench to remove bolts, or on the removal setting(even if it has it).

Yes it works, however it can damage the torque wrench, and send it out of calibration.

you have floor jack? take off the handle and put it on the ratchet handle. 3 ft breaker bar. might need an extra hand to hold the socket snug on the bolt but an extra 3 ft really busts some tight bolts. you could also hit it with a propane torch, just be sure to only warm it up and avoid brake lines and the such

 

Finally got those suckers. It's all good.

 

First time I broke the plugs free, they were all very tight. 1/2" 2 foot breaker bar and hard 6 point's got it done on the rear plug. Rattled the face of the plugs with a custom built air hammer bit,,to shake the white lock dust loose.

 

A few years back i smashed the hell outta my pinky doing just that
