this is why after I wash any vehicle I drive around the block, or even just up and down the driveway while riding the brakes just to remove any rust on the brakes and help dry them a little.

That happened to me once. I slipped the clutch, the engine died, the hand brake was still up.

There is a recall for this as we type. My truck is stuck at the dealership and will not be released.

I was just about to post what fonzy posted, my uncles is at the dealership, and they won't release it because it's leaking diff fluid. Supposedly they could seize up and lock up the rear wheels, if I had a third GEN, I would be out there looking at the rear diff, make sure it's dry. This is what he tells me I have not seen it in person.. (I guess maybe it could be leaking internally through the seals into the rear brakes..) he said the tech did not specify

Mine locked up in the garage the day after I washed it. I put it in reverse and that released the brakes. I should drive it a little after washing it.

This is just weird to me. I have owned alot of vehicles from the 1960's to 2016 and I have never had this happen.

I still don't buy this "due to washing stuff", Frequently I wash my car and pull it in the garage and I may not drive it for a couple of weeks after and I have never had my brakes seized. I can only think of once or twice where I had my drums stick slightly and it was due to heavy rain that changes over to snow with plummeting temps, but as soon as I let the clutch out they popped free.

Just because it "never happened to you" during your own life and personal experience with several/many vehicles doesn't mean it isn't a thing. It has happened to me, and I've only owned 3 trucks, and I'm guessing I am much younger than you.

Well guys add me to this list. Washed the truck this morning, spent about 3 hours sealing the paint then went to move the truck. One wheel squealed while the other pushed the truck sideways. Neighbors thought I was just being an a-hole.

Welp. That's a problem I HAVEN'T had with this truck.

BTW how is it that I have a 50 year old car with all 4-drums and they do not lock up or behave like this?

It's a Toyota thing, It happens more on my 4R than on the truck, I wash them in the driveway move to garage and the next day sometimes it locks.
But If you just drive it up & down the driveway or block it shouldn't seize enough to stop the vehicle from moving.

But I get it, It's weird.

Superior "Drums" for Tacoma. Better than those Disc thingies

Google "drum brakes locked after washing". The results show several threads here on TW on this subject over the past decade. Each thread has several members expressing the same thing. Occasionally, post wash, tacoma drum brakes seize up. It happened to me twice, once I was able to use 4wd to release it, once I had to tap on the drum with a piece of wood and a sledge.

    This.
This is not a recall problem.
This is a user mistake/characteristic of braking systems. It's happened on several different models of cars with disc and drum brakes in my past.
