Mine has it dealer said normal installed a sound kit .I Don’t seem to notice it anymore . From what I read even with the differential swap people still have the noise return . Seems to be common issue on the off road .

Any picture? It’s fairly normal... and the diff whines definitely a thing! Better speakers, sound deadening, and mud tires solve that problem!

Why does everyone say it’s a thing I have owned 6 Tacoma’s and not one has made a whine sound until now and if it takes a dealer 20 diffs to find a good one that’s what it will take not normal for diff to whine people who except the bs from the dealer that is normal is why dealers say this cause people accept that’s and yes I know it’s truck but it’s not a 3rd world country we live in Toyota should be able to put together a 3rd member damn

I think toyota needs to drop the Hino mfg third members and go with dana 44's.

I have owned 2 Tacomas in 11 years, both whined and neither exploded. I don't think its actually a mechanical problem, more of an annoyance.

My dad just had his replaced, as well, on his leased Tacoma. I think he's got like 10k on it.

The thing is that when people ask for advice on the site especially if there new Tacoma owners I noticed a lot of responses to there questions are a lot of bandaid fixes I constantly here it’s a normal thing just deal with it C’mon that’s crap it amazes me how many on here are just content with that answer especially coming from of these so called Tacoma guru’s

We don't need to get into their/there/they're, here/hear and apostrophes, but can you at least give us periods when you belittle a community of people that try to help you?

My diff has a slight hum only if I listen to it real hard for it with the music off and windows closed. Happens at about 55 when feathering the throttle. Does not bother me one bit.

I know some guys have it super loud apparently.

That's because the performed the TSB that was issued a few years ago. It's a common issue and depending, sometimes it's fixed and other times it's not. It has nothing to do with gear mesh or flakes and everything to do with resonance. There is your answer.
