Exactly I owned other car manufacturers and they had zero rear end noise

Mines been whining a bit since day 1. Man people have little to no experience with trucks very obviously. Doesn't matter brand or year, I get them on the road for drive ability issues and hear a rear diff whine to some degree out of every single one. Now the ones that are loud obviously a problem. But a little whine you can barely hear over the wind noise in the cab, welcome to trucks. This level on complaining is why all brands are making stupid, useless, turbo charged minivans that look like trucks anymore. Ffs please STOP. Same reason 4runner is the only remaining SUV worth a crap anymore. Even Jeeps are a joke anymore except for select wranglers.

Give it time. It took mine 16k miles before it showed up. Got it TSB'd and good to go the last 35k miles. Also this whining diff thing goes back to the second gen, so... Toyota says it's normal.

...and???!!! I wish there were a smack upside my head emoji. Did you not hear the cause of the noise? It's resonance, meaning at a certain vibratory frequency there is a whine.

Blow across a blade of grass... with a certain wind force and if you get the blade of grass pulled to a certain tension the grass blade will make a sound. The Tacoma whine is the same. What does this even mean? Won't happen to a chevy...nor a honda...nor a Tundra...nor certain other Tacomas. Read the flippin TSB man.

Dang, you managed to get all that out without stopping to take a breathe? That's impressive.

Here we go with the resonance maybe I should bring a blade of grass to the service department and blow on it then I guess they would know what he’ll people are taking about when they say the hear a whine

I heard a solid whine on my 2017 OR around the same rpm as OP on the coast side of the gears.

It eventually went away by 20k miles. Then around 29k I moved up to skinny 33" BFG MK3s. No whine, just good old MT tire hum.

At 30k I swapped out the rear leaf pack for ICON XRT leaf pack, and still no whine.

Now at 33.5k (this past week), I switched to 4:88 Yukons. Still no whine. The old gears that came out look absolutely perfect.

We'll see if all stays that way.

Look at the fucking TSB. If you have any knowledge of physics you will see that Toyota is simply trying to break up the rear driveline with spacers.
Lol discussions with you are useless. We give you fact yet you refuse to believe fact.

Just spent a couple weeks driving a bone stock DCLB 2015 Sport with the AT for work. Huge whine on deceleration with that’s 2G. My 2017 had no whine on stock gearing. Whines about the same as the 2015 now that I’m on 4.88s.

Used to have a useless load-mouth neighbor when I lived in the city. Always wore wife-beaters, basketball shorts falling off with his stank drawers hanging out, and sandals. Always yelling at his GF calling her "bro" and puffing his chest out...real tough guy.

    You remind me of him.

    Yeah.
Not sure what is so hard to understand about resonance. The act of swapping out the diff may have eliminated the whine, but that doesn't mean the original diff was bad. It's just the way things are bolted together. Some trucks exhibit a whine, some don't. Glad you got your complaint sorted, OP, but you sound like a flat earther. Toyota has a TSB to address the issue, and it has nothing to do with the diff itself being defective.
