Just depends. The splines on the locking collar have to line up. Sometimes it takes a little bit of rolling or wheel spin to make it engage, sometimes it will just work.

Seems that way doesn't it? haha

Glad you got it to work that easy! I figured you had tried that already when you asked for help. Well now you know 2 ways to get it to work again.

Well let me clarify, 99.9% of the time I've had to roll a couple feet & locker engages, maybe once or twice it has locked from an apparent stand still, probably it was luck of the draw & they just happened to be lined up...

Cause it knows I'll go back there and tinker with it if it doesn't work like I want it too. And then it'll be proper fucked.

i saw this thread and hoped you guys could help me out a bit. at first my locker was acting up not wanting to engage at all. finally in engaged and now it wont come out! ive tried all the tricks with going forward and back and turning the wheel but nothing. right now i can be in 2 wheel drive and its still locked. i was about to take it to the stealership but i thought id ask around first. is there anything electrical that would cause this that someone knows about? thanks!

Try lifting the rear end off the ground and turning the tires by hand. Put the truck back in 4 lo. Then lift the rear tires off the ground. Push the locker button then turn the tires until you hear it fully engage and until the light in the dash goes solid. Then push the button and it should unlock without a problem. Mine did the same thing and this fixed it for me. Try locking and unlocking it a few times once you get it working and with the tires off the ground.

If all else fails and it's the motor you can pull it and pop the shift fork over by hand.

    Easy thing to check.

Put the truck in 4lo. Park it, chock it, brake it, pull the e-locker motor actuator assy from the diff. Have someone carefully start your truck and without moving it, have them push the diff lock button. Watch the gear on the motor to see if it turns. I expect it won't be turning. If it does turn, well... things get a little more complicated but I'd think somehow your shift collar is bound up. Get some pry bars and large screw drivers, jack up the rear end and have someone turn the rear wheels every which way while you pry on the shift fork, you'll try to pry it to the right to disengage it.

Hey thanks for the input guys.

The locker gets used regularly, i like to make sure of that :p lol
And i was thinking id check some of the wiring first just because i dont get any kind of reaction when i push the button. Not even a blinking light just nothing. If that doesnt work then, max, im gonna give your stuff a shot here on thursday when im off work. Hopefully it doesnt get too complicated ive already got my s4 out of commision for tranny work and the oil pump in my rover that im being forced to drive is on its last breath haha. Its like all my vehicles decided to go on strike.

Another thing to watch for is the sensor that indicates if your locker is engaged can give false readings for various reasons. My locker works fine but the dash light is always blinking that it isn't engaged. I'm just too busy right now with other things to go fix it so I just listen for the click when it engages and disengages. It's pretty easy to hear and you can tell if its on or off from the click and doing a couple of S-turns to be sure.
