This is where you need to watch insurance companies. They USUALLY allow up to 80% before they total. Insurance companies are in business to make money. If you're truck is worth 30 grand on paper, they could essentially decide to total it if it has 15k in damage. The way the truck market is right now they could pay out the 30 and get some body shop to give them say 20-22 at auction. Then they're only out 8-10 grand instead of the 15 they would have paid to fix it. I've seen it happen in the Harley world many many times. You have to watch those snakes all the time lol.

Sorry about the truck OP that sucks. Hopefully no one was hurt.

Yes high salvage bids can total a car. My shop just totaled a 22 civic, the estimate was about 18k but it didn't look very bad. It's definitely getting bought for top dollar at auction.

That truck isn't going to total, but it probably needs some structural repair. Probably the inner rocker and b pillar. All that collision energy went somewhere .

I had my truck hit in that spot a little over a year ago when I had my 2018, it was only about a $2500 (CAD) claim through insurance.

As long as there's no frame damage...doubtful. They wont total this out and a replacement Tacoma has risen in price. I would
recommend going to your own Auto Body shop and not one they refer you to because those insurance approved shops will cut corners.

Be careful if you’re doing this because usually your insurance will have a lifetime guarantee on the work they have done on your vehicle and they won’t promise that unless you use their shop a lot of times. Not always but worth checking on.

I have a friend that's always battling adjusters because they don't want to cover parts or specific parts of a job they say to him "just do this" or "Its not necessary" he says "nope, in order for it to be done correctly...so and so needs to be done". Most shops will guarantee work 100%. They are after all insurance companies and their referred shops are factories.
