Rear Driveshaft Measurement

In the midst of doing the Prerunner to 4x4 swap and I'm gonna be trying out the transmission this weekend but the problem is I don't know how long my new driveshaft needs to be . Do I need to replace the entire driveshaft or just on piece of it ?? Haven't been able to find a solid answer on this if so whats the total length of the Rear driveshaft for you 4x4 thanks

The rear driveshaft on a 4x4 is 2 piece. You should have a spot on the frame to mount the center support bearing, that is about the halfway point. You best bet is to try and find a used one at a local scrapyard as Toyota charges an arm, a leg and your firstborn for one.

 

i just measured mine and approximetly 68 inches total length for both shafts. give or take 1/16 of a inch.

 

just read your post and the rear shaft is 41 1/8 end to end. (approx)

 

but i am second gen. so i probably didnt' help! I tried.

 

got it thanks guys ha, behind the center bearing is the same length on all my front is 39.5 and 4x4 is 27.5 hopefully getting one in the morning and gonna go ahead and put the tranny in and wait for the front end

 

Dont know what ur set-up is, but u can always get a shaft made & do away with the carrier bearing.

 

Problem is, is that this is my daily driver so I needed the replacement but I got it straight
