rear driveshaft won’t compress

    Db customz patriot grille
    I removed my rear driveshaft and now when going to put it back together i had to smack the flange to get it to compress at all. not enough unfortunately and i don’t wanna destroy the U-joint. what could i possibly be doing wrong.
