Hey everyone! I have a 2001 Tacoma with the E-locker. I haven’t gotten my locker to engage no matter what I do(Driving forward and back, turn wheel sharp, ect.) I am in 4 LO and I’ve done the grey wire mod as well in hopes that grounding that out would fix it. I checked the plug going into the diff actuator and tested the voltage. I’m pretty sure that the green/red wire gives power(the wiring diagram I’m referencing is below).
With my tester on the green/red wire, and the other end on the black/white ground wire I get 0 volts. Now when I ground my tester to the frame while still on the green/red wire, I get about .7-.9 volts. I SUCK at anything electrical, can someone help me understand what’s going on? Thanks.

I had luck taking mine apart and cleaning it when it stopped working awhile back.

I seen it before, so I’ll ask since you mentioned you suck at electrical. For the grey wire mod, you ground the correct side? If not, that will explain why it’s not engaging. Also, ground color code is not black/white even though I understand what you’re referring to, it’s white/black (w-b) per diagram. The primary color (main color) first follow by the secondary color (stripe).

When was the last time you engaged the locker and it was working?

Did the actuator get removed prior and somehow the slide gear in the third member shifted to the left and didn’t get reset correctly when reinstalling the actuator?

Yes I did ground the correct side. I bought this truck about a month ago and so I have no clue if the locker was ever even used. I’d say my best bet is to try to clean it out, and if not just purchase the new one?

Not sure if anyone has been in your diff since the locker quit working?

When I bought my truck it had 4.88 gearing and the locker didn't work. I put 5.29 in, cleaned, tested and reassembled everything and it works great now. I think the previous mechanic didn't properly "clock" the actuator. Directions are in the FSM and are pretty straightforward.

Make sure the locker works and isn't gummed up- Get the tires up off the ground, remove the actuator, and see if you can manually slide the lock over. Test spin the wheels to make sure the diff is locked. Then move on to the actuator itself.
