Could be reverberations from the frame. My 2nd gen always had a feeling I'd describe as a shimmy on rough roads. I could see the bed shaking excessively in the mirror. The bed is so light and the c-channel frame is quite flexy, didn't feel like the suspension was very effective when unloaded.

I'd start by lowering the tire psi to the correct specification.

You are missing something. I'm on my 5th Tacoma, the previous 4 had the typical truck feel you are talking about. Same with my fathers last 5 GM's. We get it, trucks are light in the back, they will have that feel. The issue being discussed here is different (for me anyways), take my work for it. I've never been bounced around so much on a truck that is suppose to be smoother then my second gem's. Even a shallow small bump…Im bouncing after the fact.

I test drove the sport and thought I was going to bounce off the road after I rode over a speedbump. Hence bought the OR.

I know what you mean OP, I've thought the same about my truck when going over railroad tracks.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.

OP you're either gonna get load capacity or empty ride quality. It's all a trade off with a pickup. Even worse in the Tacoma as the bed is fiberglass/composite so it weighs even less on the back end.

Here i was beginning to think i was crazy, I had/have the same issue. I have almost 2k on the truck now and it has finally calmed down for the most part, but the suspension has softened up and smoothed out in general too.
I drove 2 short wheel base ORs and neither did it. Took my long wheel base OR over the same stretch of road and it hits a bump, bounces and then shakes out for half a second or so. Mostly does it when only one rear tire hits the obstacle (sunken manhole cover does it every time). Doesn't do it with weight in the bed.

I'd suggest giving it some time and seeing if it gets better as the truck wears in. I know its not what you want to hear but Toyota wont do anything about it or explain to you whats happening. My thoughts, like others have said, are the back end is too light to really compress the suspension when empty so it bounces.

I replaced the stock TRDOR suspension with an Icon stage 1 and noticed the bounce is less pronounced. It seems to rebound and settle quicker and feels a lot firmer.

OP, I had that initially when I got the truck. Found that the tire pressure was 38psi. Looked in the door for the tire sticker and adjusted down to 30 cold and no more bounce!

Well that sounds like an easy fix. Hopefully it works for others.

I was wondering about this also. My DCLB OR shows 30 PSI on the door, but it came from the dealer with 36 (cold) in the tires. Will be dropping them down a bit tonight to see if it gets a bit smoother. It already handles bumps way better than my 99 OR did, but listening to ice rattling in my wife's fast food drink cup the other day made me start to question it a bit.

I personally like a little rear end bounce, it makes the whole ride a bit more pleasurable. As far as the truck goes, I don´t know what to tell ya.

You just have to take it over some sweet jumps. Then the suspension will calm down.
