Pretty obvious that the kid was not paying attention and likely on his phone. Pisses me off just reading about this. I hope his insurance goes so high he cant afford to drive.

He was driving with a suspended license, you think he cares about insurance?

He must have been the mayor’s or the police chief’s kid.

Ask for that police report when it comes back, it better not be in his favor saying something stupid like it was a not at fault accident or that it was you who backed into the Subaru. Got any other witnesses? Sorry to say you may need them. Good luck with this one.

Amazing when comparing the damage how well your ride held up!

However disappointed they would let someone with a suspended license drive off, how is he still insured? Hopefully someone had a policy on that STi because they’re going to cover your damage, but likely NOT the STi’s. Suspended license doesn’t give you coverage. It’s like your unlicensed teen kid taking it out for a joyride and crashing, insurance won’t cover the teen or the car the teen was in at the time, but I think they would cover the other collateral damage, not sure how that works at that point. Unless policy holders are the parents...insurance still won’t cover the Subaru because you’re not insured when your license is suspended, because simply put, you’re not supposed to be driving!

Not sure what state you are in but where I live you do not drive away from an accident with a suspended license. You get to leave in the back seat of a patrol car.

Jesus I can't believe they would let him drive away with a car like that, license or not. Something isn't right there. I worked with a guy that had much less damage done to his car from a hit and run, he got pulled over on the way to work and they towed his car because they said it was unsafe.

Damn. I just drove that intersection today. I really find it hard to believe that they let him drive away with a suspended license, they should have arrested him. Dad must be SCPD. At least with a suspended license, since he couldn't legally operate a vehicle, his insurance (assuming he had some) can't argue the point. Should be covered 100%. At least you are not injured. Good luck with this.

Glad everyone was ok in the accident.tough loss with 3,500miles.
I was in an accident a few years ago where the guy said he couldn’t speak English,Invalid license,NOT his vehicle..and he was able to drive away..Lucky me,the report had me at some fault so neither could collect.Tough hitting the side of a truck on a motorcycle, but I did drive it home a little bent up..

Not right at the moment, but he will, eventually. Bad decisions eventually catches up with everyone. But at 20, you can't convince him of that now, lol.

Wait, "drove away" right" BUT had a suspend license and there was a cop that saw everything? Nothing is adding up...

I think his first bad decision was getting the STi.. his parents should NOT have spoiled him. Should have made the kid pay full tilt for insurance AND the nic on the car. Maybe he would have paid closer attention to driving safely. Just sayin.

Wonder if suspended license was for speeding ... or texting while driving several times.
Could be the reason the cops let him go. They didn't want to do all the paperwork or some BS. OR kids parent was/is a cop or a judge. Prolly a judge, cant see a cop letting his kid drive with a suspended license. Plus cops get to see dead people in accidents all the time. Unlikely they would let son drive off in a car like that.

Suspended license = void insurance. At least that's how it works here.

    I wish you luck, OP.

OP- put a lien on his car title, its probably the only thing he owns with value if he has no insurance to cover your loss. Also file a diminished value claim if he has insurance to cover your depreciation from the recorded accident.

I am not sure if he put one of the officer's on the phone with someone while they were chatting and gathering his documents but there is a possibility that his dad is a known big shot in the area and what not and I could care less if a PO wants to risk their career or lose a promotion over such thing. We all make decisions for ourselves and sometimes they hunt us down later down the line because some have become a usual habit. Anyways, no offtopic long lecture on living your life.

Subaru is insured by GEICO and I have called them already. They already received a call from kid's dad about an accident etc. GEICO has started a claim for the Taco but need to wait a day or two for the Police report to become available. Then, they will proceed with the claim. We will see how things go from there. I am insured by a different company. If there is any false claiming on the police report I will definitely dish out $$$ for legal fees to fight back instead of spending on my truck first. I am not an expert but I have owned closed to 12 vehicles or so and from that experience I can say there isn't frame damage (visually). The truck does pull in straight line while doing 70-80 or lower speeds. No unusual sounds, rubbing or grinding from either end of truck. I will still get everything inspected from a good body and mechanic shop. Trailer hitch seems bent as you can see in the photos and that shouldn't be too painful to replace.

Unrelated but I really wanted to trade my taco in for a wrx about a week ago. Man the white 18’s are sweeeet and a great ride. But for some reason I just couldn’t give up the taco, they even offered me 34k for it.
