Ok, guys, I need some opinions on crash protection if rear ended.

You guys think something like this hitch mounted skid plate may help prevent a lot of damage if your truck was rear ended? My thinking is that this plate would actually "lift" the rear of the truck when contacted instead of having the other vehicle contact the hitch receiver and bumper.

I was rear ended and the other car bent the rear frame rails and basically destroyed the hitch and bumper.\

    Thoughts?

It’s all dependent on vehicle speeds and angles. That extra piece will do no better than if nothing was there, not worth the gamble for such little benefit.

I put an aftermarket rear bumper on my truck and before I mounted it I boxed the rear frame rails up to the cross member/rear spring shackles. I have seen many frames on here when rear-ended severe enough that the frame rails give way between the rear bumper mount and the cross member. Will it help? Who knows, because all I did was move the point the frame will buckle somewhere forward to where it may not be repairable.
The aftermarket bumper is overbuilt and heavy so I can't see it being damaged in a rear-ender.
