    OP,

@Clearwater Bill is right. Should be a quick fix.

Besides, the other person's insurance company is covering the costs. No matter how long it takes. And if you take it to one of their preferred shops, the repairs are usually guaranteed for as long as you have the truck.

So why not take advantage of it? You have nothing to lose.

OP: Sorry to hear about that. I wish the tailgate-cam could record a rolling 4 hour loop of everything it sees to an SD card in the glovebox. Should be a relatively easy fix though, and I'm glad nobody got hurt.

Someone rear-ended my junker ranger with an eclipse... Dented the bumper and left it skewed to the right by about an inch (no gap on the right side, 2 inch gap on the left side, used to be a one inch gap on both.) The front end of the eclipse pretty much fell off. The driver was freaking out about me filing a claim and pressing charges, but I just laughed and told them it was fine. Drove off and had no issues. A slightly sore neck the next day, but completely fine the day after that.

A few years later I got rear-ended again, this time by a Buick... Something? old-people car. Once again the driver freaked out, but this time they'd hit just the right spot and my rear bumper was even again. They had a semicircle paint-chip the size of a silver dollar on their front bumper. Once again I said it was fine and drove off and had no issues. Hell, they actually did me a favor :p

But now I have a brand new truck that I actually care about. If someone gives me a love-tap from behind and does cosmetic damage, I'll have to be a dick about it and make their insurance pay the claim. That feels strange, but eh, I'll get used to it.

If you decide to replace the bumper skin can you provide us some info on the cost of the bumper third and if they come painted or not?

Plastic cannot be painted properly. If you rattle-can spraypaint plastic, it looks and wears like rattlecan'd plastic. If you professionally spray plastic in a paint-shop, it looks and wears like rattlecann'd plastic. If you pay Pablo Picasso to paint plastic, it looks and wears like rattlecann'd plastic.

Plastic color is determined in the melting stage before it is molded. Any paint applied after that looks like shit, and a paperclip could scratch it down to the true mold color.

EDIT: Apparently I am wrong, and you can paint plastic that looks nice. Ignore this post.

So Levo, why can't he use some compound and then some wax to remove the scratches. Serious question. Not trying to be a smart ass.

Texture? It'll catch the light differently and always look 'wrong', I think.

I guess the paint must adhere to the plastic differently than it sticks to metal. I didn't know that. Hell, maybe they even use a different type paint for metal and plastic.

I am pretty sure it my receiver had still been attached (had to find the key to the pin when I went for the trade in, haven't had need to put back on yet), the damage to this little car would have been pretty bad. Overall, the owner and driver of the offending vehicle got away with very little.

As to the why she hit me, I suspect cell phone. I saw her driving a bit reckless behind the vehicle behind me (middle car took a different lane). She hit me, I got out, looked at both vehicles, we agreed to move to a parking lot instead of travel lanes, her party was already there. We couldn't have been 2 minutes from impact to exchanging info.

I'm with you Tiny - I have been contacted in other vehicles, had barely noticeable marks, I shrugged it off and went on with life. I have a hard time being a dick, so I'll push the issue with the insurance company to get things back to proper again, but I don't want to see people suffer just because my situation has a blemish.

If I get details of costs, I'll post them up.

Damn, Lord Helmet. That's a hell of a hitch you have there. Ever used it to tow with? Looks like it would tow fine. I might have to pick up one of those.

They have a hitch version. The owner of the company replaced the sparebumper after I got rear ended free of charge. Toyota checked my frame for frame damage and it was good to go
