Only if who is at fault is in question. When I was rear ended a couple years ago I don't think I even talked to my insurance company, his company called me and said our guy was at fault we have you covered. It probably didn't hurt that our local crash investigator watched the accident. Rates never went up and there is no accident on my record.

Damn, I was rear ended yesterday also. Nearly identical damages as the OP. 358mi. Not even a full week old. 16 4x4 DCSB TRD OR, Picked it up last friday night. So pissed. But oddly it seems something always happens during the first month of every new vehicle I have purchased.

Hopefully nothing but good karma from here out for this truck as I intend to keep it around for a long time!

A lot of people look for a vehicle with a "clean" car fax and won't buy one that is not. Definitely can hurt resale!

The Christening of the new Taco. I am glad you did not get much damage. My Taco is safe and sound, but I also had something happen to a different vehicle on my first week of ownership. Shopping cart put a small crease on my passenger door after owning it only a week. I had no idea whether it just rolled there or someone pushed it. The crease was not bad, but you could definitely see it. The only thing my new Taco has succumbed to is a whole mess of bugs plastered all over it.

I wouldn't even bring that in to a shop. Collect the insurance money and buff it out yourself. No need to have a "VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIRS AT SHOP" event on the carfax report. Rent or borrow a nice polisher and check out the detailing section. Done.

Car Fax is not very accurate. I wrecked a couple of cars and they had clean carfax reports. Police reports made and cars were repaired at a dealer. Insurance paid for damages.

My neighbor's Lexus was flooded and it never showed a blip on Car Fax.

Yeah. This appears very minor. Likely just repair and paint on the rear bumper face bar but likely replace the plastic section due to it being a textured plastic piece (technically, it can be repaired, but usually best just to replace it). Probably a few hundred dollars for that.

I would recommend checking your back up sensors just to make sure they're working properly.

As someone who was recently rear ended twice in two weeks, my insurance company was never involved whatsoever. The two other insurance companies worked with the body shop and paid for the fix. Didn't impact my insurance in the least. There was no reason for my insurance to get involved unless I had trouble getting the other drivers' insurance to cover the damage. In a simple rear-ending, that's really never the case unless you're dealing with a hit and run.

I went to the parts dept to get an idea Saturday. For the center black plastic portion of the bumper and 1 bumper side cover (unpainted) total with 15% discount was $546. The actual bumper frame is a little bent on mine, and while it is just probably cosmetic, I am going to get a professional complete estimate done before I decide what I will do (in regards to filing a claim with her ins.)

Didn't happen to take a picture of the bumper frame did you? I am shocked that it bent, bumper must have absorbed more impact than it appears. Is the third gen set up for bumper pull like the last two?

A SpareBumper in your hitch might have prevented that damage.

I should have been more specific (and no, I unfortunately don't have any photo at this time of what I am describing), the damage to the bumper frame is not that the entire frame is bent, as I don't think it distorted at all except for moving slightly at the mounting points which can be reset and re-positioned by loosening the bolts and re-torquing them in the correct position. However, just above the hitch receiver at the point of impact, there is a small bend or dimple in the frame. Totally non structural and purely cosmetic. But, if I claim this then it should technically be replaced because the damage was all caused by this accident and was perfect prior, and should be perfect again after the repair, regardless the cost.

Repairs have not been done yet, but I had a Gerber shop (sanctioned by the offender insurance company) provide an initial estimate. The bumper piece has price of $109 and the step had price of $288. These prices were based on P/N and price from Toyota, no info in their database as of yet.
