I like the pro4x frontier! Except that interior, I thought the Tacoma was boring until looking at that

Accidents happen EVERY DAY so take a breath. If you wanted a lawyer should have done that from the start. Most lawyers won't want to touch this since there is no injury being reported. Plus you gave statements and the ball is already rolling.

You will get MUCH further with the shop and the insurance company by being cool. Level with the adjuster instead of ripping them a new one. It is usually true the squeaky wheel gets the grease...but not always.

Tied several boat anchors to my truck to destroy MPG.
Diminished value compensation: they straight up write you a check in addition to fixed it to "as new". The diminished value is purely to compensate for the fact that the truck now has a blemished record and will be harder to sell due to the Carfax (etc).
If you have any problem with diminished value there are lawyers (blood sucking most likely) that deal with this stuff all the time. In my case I was able to negotiate directly with the insurance provider for the woman who hit me and they offered what I thought was a fair amount. I got the check in the mail in a week and Service King made my car look like new. I promptly traded it in for my Tacoma while the detail was still fresh.

I just had to deal with State Farm after hitting a deer. I was ready to bristle, but they handled my claim perfectly. I had zero complaints and I got my truck back already. A few issues I noticed, but Service King is replacing those parts....nothing to do with the insurance company. I can't believe I'm defending an insurance company and YMMV, but that was my experience.

Until people start taking driving more seriously in the US, don't expect this experience to ever change.

Personally, I find the idea that 'accidents happen' an abhorrent concept that marginalizes the risk of a car accident. We would rather go house by house, beating down the door to pull AR-15's out of people's hands. Make bicyclist wear helmets (they should anyway). However, car 'accidents' take more lives than many other things that we actually devote resources to change. Maybe driverless cars will fix this and make the pain and suffering (physical or emotional),go away.

Did you guys who went through diminished value claims need to get professional appraisals done? Or did you just try to bargain with the at-faults insurance?

as someone who didnt get a professional appraisal done and wish i did. I would advise you spend the extra money and get it .when they offer you so much less you have a position to argue and send in your appraisal.

What if you had gone to the dealership to do an appraisal for trade in? Get it in writing and then possibly be able to use that as your proof to the insurance. Professional appraisals are a bit expensive and I'd like to at least know a ballpark i.e. dealership before I try to get one done.

i would think a diminished value estimate would tell you more along the lines of what market loss your car actually has vs what its appraised for. Do you have an appraisal before the accident to compare? Think of it this way. Diminished value appraisal cost 100-500.... you can stand to get 1k more or so from it. its worth the money

Wow. Must have been more cost effective. They factor in your rental costs and the DV you were about to go for. Thanks for sharing and good luck man.

wow at 1 year old. pm me what they offer you for the value. are you expecting more than 30 for your truck?

every truck i saw on the dealer lot that was a used tacoma with 20k miles dealerships were asking more than a new tacoma.
