I believe my insurance will go after her. I also think she will lose her license. I'm ok either either or both.

Based on what you said previously, I rather doubt any action short of prison will stop her from driving.

Accidents in general are up something insane post pandemic compared to pre, something like 15%. Unfortunately I became part of that stat less than a month ago when a 50 year old lady ( most likely texting and driving) rammed into my driver side bed tire. I was stopping for a traffic light and she cut across the road from a strip mall and drove straight into me. Claimed she didn't see me even though i was going about 12mph at impact and she hit the back of my truck. The cop didn't buy her story either and put right on the police report that she was totally at fault. She cracked my rim and gashed the bead of the tire. Tore the entire front end of her Cadillac off.

People are more wreckless than ever and as someone who is also a cyclist its made me even more wary of distracted drivers.
The US has got to put stricter punishments into place for negligent drivers, especially repeat offenders.

The lady who hit OP will get slapped with a fine, probably lose her license, but most likely keep on driving. That's the worst part of all this.

Edit: correction, fatality rate is up 23%, holy smokes

I lived in the Netherlands for a while and occasionally drove in Germany. In most places there are only 2 lanes in each direction. Even at 120 mph it is amazing how fast a car can come up in the passing lane, one must be very careful when changing lanes. And when driving in the fast lane, it is important to always be suspicious of any vehicle you are going to pass.

In my opinion, Taco's have terrible brake lights. They're a lot of cars and trucks with new LED tail lights that virtually blind me in the dark. My RAV 4 had week ass brake lights as well. I hope Toyota does better in the future.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the harsh rear LED based taillights.

When I got a new phone years ago, my mom said "don't text and drive" to me. When I am on the road, she said "ANSWER ME NOW!!!" in big caps in text message. I was like scoff at her text. I showed up her house and said "You told me "don't text and drive. I am not that stupid. " I never text during moving vehicle.

I can't stand people who are impatient about not responding to text messages. The text can wait if people are driving.

I have 'auto response' option enabled. When I get a text, the reply will be sent back to sender automatically saying the person is driving, so he will text you later. My mom thinks I typed that. I put "auto-reply" along with the message so she will know it is not me typing that.

This is something I've never understood. One would think you would be on your best behavior when driving around without insurance or registration. Just like the dudes being popped for stupid infractions like speeding and no turn signals while they have $2M in Columbian fun dip in the trunk!

In Georgia, you cannot get a license plate without proof of valid car insurance. No insurance, no plate! No plate and you will get pulled over pretty darn quick. And uninsured motorist coverage is not optional here, it is required because of dirt bags like the one that hit you.

    Sorry for your loss OP!

I really wish they would do something like this in Washington State. I am not one for over regulation but in the instance of driving laws I am all for throwing the book at said dirt bags. Fucking around on a cell phone while driving should be similar to drunk driving charges when caught.

And Georgia is also a hands free cell phone state. You cannot have the phone in your hands when driving for any reason and that includes at stop lights. Many still ignore the law (mostly the younger generation that grew up with those fucking things attached to their body) but they are cracking down and it's an expensive ticket.

I’m gonna sound like an ass but I almost take comfort from seeing these photos of Tacoma accidents because it reminds me how often the Tacoma “wins.” Feels good knowing that our trucks are incredibly safe especially when rear ended…

Not trying to be a dick, OP sorry about this happening, I hope you can get a brand spanking ‘22/‘23!

Keep in mind these frame if bent cannot be straightened. On my 4Runner when rear ended the body shop had to source a new frame.

Yeah it's a total loss. Just got back from the estimate. In Oregon if any part of a frame is damaged beyond repair it's a loss.
