I must confess I came here for a little help clearing something up. Before that, I have owned first? generation Toyota Tacomas now for over 15 years and the wife drives a Corolla, 2010, only thing ever went wrong has been replacing the heater blower motor twice! Now, to the help I need. I have a 2002 Tacoma pickup. Rear end axle designation A02A. My pumpkin is rusted and the oil is seeping out, I need to replace the rear end. The following information may be necessary. Base model, standard cab, 5 spd manual, 2.7 liter engine, 5 lug rear end, 15 inch rims, no ABS I think it is 3.73 gear ratio. What I need to know is what axles are interchangeable that I could use. I thank all in advance for any answers or directions where to find this information. I asked the wife if it was okay if I look at rear ends and she said yes. If it gets to expensive I will just go buy another truck. I am too old to swap it out myself anymore so I will have to bring it to my mechanic.
    Thank You
    Long Live Toyotas.

    For what it's worth...
I had a rust leak in my oil pan a decade ago. I patched it with JB Weld. Just drained oil, sanded and cleaned location, mushed on JB weld, refilled oil next day. That $7 repair last 4 years until I scrapped the truck for frame rust...
    Maybe worth a shot....?
    Good luck -

I don't know 5-lugs well, but as far as I know you simply need to find another 5-lug Tacoma axle, anything 95.5-2004.

Gear ratio doesn't matter too much since you're 2WD, but changing the gear ratio will change the truck's driving characteristics and make the speedometer/odometer inaccurate.

If your donor truck has ABS (did 5-lugs even have ABS as an option?) just leave the sensors unplugged or remove them and cap the holes.

If it's only the dome of the pumpkin that's bad you might also be able to get a new one welded on.
