So ya, plenty of space width wise, not so much space length wise.

I think that’s a sell for me. Will work better as a 3rd row seat in the highlander if pulling double duty.

I prefer to not own too many ordinary car seats. They need to have their defining attributes. Lol.

anyone ever try and shove in a doona stroller combo seat? They’re supposed to fit on airplanes…. We just got one, may have to try.

Anyone have issues with the back seat being to flat? It doesn’t kick in the car seat that will. Front to back is fine but it moves side to side. Anyone else with these issues?

Are you saying your car seat moves side to side too much? If so, I would think the seatbelt holding the car seat in place isn't tight enough. There will always be 'some' wiggle but not that much.

Yeah I mean I’ve cranked that seat belt down as tight as possible but the car seat can still slide sideways back and forth in the seat. I’m not sure if it’s because the car seat doesn’t have a way to lock the seat belt down and in place or if it’s because the seat is flat and doesn’t hug the carseat in place at all. Also wondering if I could just use something to fit in next to the carseat to lock it in place between the door. Maybe a subwoofer is needed????

A lot of car seats have adjustable base to deal with this. If not just make something to set on top of the seat and under the base.

Without knowing how the seat belt holds your specific car seat I can't comment for sure but mine doesn't slide sideways because the seatbelt goes through the bottom of the car seat and on the side facing the access cab door one part of the belt goes up to the top (where the belt connects to the roof area) and the other part of the belt goes to the bottom (where the belt bolts to the floor) creating like a "V" or "T" coming out of the car seat base. That prevents it from moving.

This is what i mean (the red lines):

That is how mine also is strapped in. I feel like what happens is the shoulder strap lifts the seat a little bit and it slides around because of that. I’ve seen other people post that car seat you have. How do you like it? I just bought the graco car seat I have but am planning on returning it

I like it because it fits. It's not adjustable and doesn't recline as much as our Nuna car seat in our other vehicle and is maybe like not as 'plush' as far as the material goes but our kid doesn't seem to mind. I guess this car seat was more a function over form whereas our Nuna is form over function. I still like it and would recommend it. The Nuna was f'n expensive and they both carry our kid safely from point A to point B... lol so i guess thats all that matters.

Update: went with the Diono 3r and it fits securely. Front seat will be reserved for the pup and the wife will ended up sitting behind me if we’re all traveling together, but we can all travel together and I WONT be trading in the access cab. I just wanted to thank everyone for all the advice. Greatly appreciated.

Appreciate everyone's contributions to this thread, just spent a lot of time on here trying to figure out rear facing infant seat options for my '06 access cab. Turns out that with a bit more effort I was able to fit the seat we'd already bought for my wife's car, the Clek Liing. The load leg on the seat base doesn't work with the jump seats (shortest position is still too long), but I was able to install the base using both the seatbelt and LATCH options (not at the same time, but both options work). Passenger seat is one or two clicks back from all the way forward, with a couple of clicks of recline to the seat back. So doable for short drives (I'm 5'8" and can fit in the passenger seat without my knees hitting the dash), but definitely not comfortable for any distance. We'll see how long we make it without moving to something bigger; the truck's got 230k+ miles, but between a new kid, a new house, and student loans kicking back in we might try to ride it out for a while longer. Gotta get my money's worth out of that new frame I guess.

Here’s a graco extend2fit for reference. In a 3rd gen without the fold out bottom seat cushion that the 2nd gens have.

    Phil,

How is it going with that Graco? We have the same one. I just tried installing it in my access cab, 2013. It did fit but moved all over the place. The backrest of the jump seat just has no give like an upholstered seat does and the seat won’t bite into it. And it moves up and down a lot. And I tightened the poop out of the strap.

I usually put a knee in the seat and my weight down to snug them up a bit more so that they are within manufacturer spec.

I’ve had to do it in my access cab especially with a Diono forward facing mainly because of the way the rear anchor is oriented and the seat belt being a longer strap at the receptacle side.

Same dilemma here, longer trips we take the wife’s vehicle for sure. We just welcomed our daughter last week and have been using the Tacoma for appointments etc. My wife sits behind me and is comfortable but only 5’3”. Making this work as I don’t want a payment and love my 09.
