What make and model do you have and in what position in the rear seats? I’m trying to figure out what if any car seat can fit comfortably behind the driver or passenger seat. Is Diono the way or is there anything that works better?

Our child is over 20 pounds now and I would like to move on from a middle mounted Graco with base to something more permanent.

It was a pain but I kept my kid in the middle when I could since that’s the best place to avoid injury from a side collision.

I have a diono radian 3rxt safe+ and like it. But I did see on a review site that kids will tend to outgrow them faster than other seats out there. The other thing about the dionos is the shoulder straps are more narrow. At least more narrow than other seats I’ve used. I swapped out the shoulder pads they came with for slimmer ones off another seat I got rid of. And my 4 yr old is average size.

The middle is the best place. Not all seats fit well in all cars. Do some research before you buy.
Edit: I just notice you child is getting bigger so looking to get a booster or something?

No money, all went to truck...
Britax is possibly the best brand out there. when my daughter was 2, she was in a major accident with grandparents. She had seat belt marks across her chest but otherwise unscathed. Sold for life. I'm sure other seats would have worked fine but I was sold. Never bought any other brand. Any model we bought fit in my double cab with no problems.

Not going to sugarcoat it - Rear facing is nearly impossible unless you or the passenger sit pretty upright and pretty far forward. Front facing is more doable but even then it's tight.

We have Britax convertible seats and a Baby Jogger basket before that. My Tacoma is strictly a work truck now.

If you can, go to one of those Buy Buy Baby stores and ask them to help you try the seat in your truck.

Sounds like you are a prime candidate for the Tundra mod. Crewmax specifically. Tons of room in the back seat. Reason I sold my 2nd gen.

I ran the Graco 4Ever Extend2Fit rear facing in my truck on the passenger side without issue.

The passenger seat gets closer to the dash than is ideal, but for my usage it was fine. My wife wasn’t in my truck a ton so the times she was I didn’t have issues.

Maybe I’m in the minority but I never could get the Radian secured rear-facing in a way I felt safe with it.
