Well there ya go. Fits in the middle. I am 6' tall but sit closer to the steering wheel than most do I've noticed. (Figure because I have always drove an manual with a deep clutch)

    Pros:
I chose this seat because it was the only one I could find that looked like it was built like a tank. Sits rather upright, has a cup holder (up to one on each side), strong enough to be rear facing 5-50lb kiddos. Front Facing 20-65lbs, and booster 50-120lbs.
Cons: Heavy, PITA to install due to the many options and configurations. Since our trucks don't have lower latches for the middle seat you need to use the lap belt to secure it there.

Let me know if you have questions.

We have the Nuna Rava. It fits in the passenger side rear quite well while still allowing a reasonable amount of room for the front passenger seat even if in a slightly reclined position. This seat it good to 50lbs rear facing and can be flipped around and is good to 65lbs front facing.
I like the idea of putting the seat in the rear middle...when rear facing, is it a pain to get the child in there? And is it a pain to reach back to hand the child stuff?

I have the Britax Marathon clicktight in the middle back of my double cab and it works out fine. Can sometimes be a pain getting in there to get him in or out, but I don’t generally mind it. Bonus to that seat is it’s super easy to install since it uses the seatbelt.

I've got two of those. Narrow seats that work well with non-full-size trucks/cars. But you're right, they are heavy. Which was apparent when we flew and had to lug that thing around the airport. On the plus side, it folds up nice and slim for storage.

Obviously not as close as being on the side. Not sure on handing him stuff or shoving a nuk back in his mouth. Haven't tried. yet.
Did you put it in the middle at all? If so, did you use the top tether with the lap belt?

Thanks for posting this. I'm waiting on a 2018 DCSB to change from my 2013 acces cab, to accommodate my soon to need second car seat.

Do you think you could fit one Dino in the middle and another on the passenger side?

Rainier measures 15"w x 16"d at the base and is 18"w at the top.

Probably. There is more shoulder room in the back than there is leg room.

I use a britax marathon in the middle on my DC, kid is big enough now that I just chuck him on the seat next to it and he climbs in himself and then I just have to lean in to buckle it. I found that it wouldn't fit behind the passenger seat and allow any sort of real legroom in the front (which is saying something considering my SO is 4'11"). Intuitively I feel like it's a bit safer in the middle as well if I were to ever get t-boned in the truck, although who knows if that's true or not.

We had one of the bucket seats with a click-in base when my kid was small enough for it, and that did fit behind the passenger seat just fine, the convertible ones are just so huge it's tough to get them to fit.

I do wish that there were latch clips in the center spot though, that's a bit of a pain to deal with.

Once they're front facing, it's a lot easier to find seats that fit on the sides.

This is very true. It is also a line I use on my Bro-in-law when he laughs at the back row room compared to his F-150.
Yes. This feels like an oversight. I can't cost too much to throw in a couple more hooks.

I checked and I've actually got the Radian, not the Rainier. The Radian is supposed to be able to fit 3 across in a mid-size sedan. So it should work just fine in the Tacoma. Looking at mine, I'd say there is definitely enough room for 2 on one side.

If they ditch the sliding rear door, and lift it doesn't that make it an SUV instead of a mini-van now?

    It’s real.

We’ve had our Diono Radian RXT, it is a great seat. Definitely easier when they can go forward facing. I’m 6’7, when we had our son my DC was replaced.. no room for him.

    Congrats on fatherhood!
