I purchased an RCI rear plate bumper on black Friday, but didn't add the reverse light kit. I already did the HIR 921 upgrade and don't really need that much light out back. I live in California and found that rear facing fog lights actually are legal in this state, and I think would be helpful during my early morning drives into work in Ventura County.
I was thinking I would get the Rigid SRQ Pro in a red driving disused to act as rear fogs.
My question is, does anyone know how many amps the stock SR5 fog lights pulled and, if I replaced them with the drop in KC Hi-Lights LED's (which only draw 1.48 amps) with the stock circuit also be able to handle a pair of the Rigid SRQ's (around 42 watts) if I tap directly into it?

Edit: I should also add that I'm not one of the people who drives with their fog lights on at all times, only inclement weather, so no errors of me blinding people for no reason in clear weather.

Not sure that I'm correct, but believe that the OE Fog's are 35W or less. I'm really baffled by your choice to have front and rear lighting activated at the same time? Sounds very uncourteous to me?

If your willing to run new wiring from the engine bay anyway (which I would suggest anyway). Why not just install a relay with a trigger circuit from the OE reverse lighting?

Rear fog lights do not function like front facing ones.

Rear fogs are built for the rear facing application, the beam and wattage are specialized. Toyota rear fog lights utilize a 21W bulb. I have some OEM Toyota Hilux flush mount rear fogs, if you are interested.

Think bright red bulbs so cars can see you better. Almost like when brake lights are applied.

Never heard of "rear Facing Fog Lights" ?

I only use my rear lighting to see in reverse. Well - and to blind people.

Are they really called "Fog Lights"? Surely they actually have a different name?

What are the dimensions? Ideally I'm looking for something that will fit cleanly in the slots for the Rigid SRQ's since that's what the bumper is set up for. Or if anyone has any other recommendations for flush mount 6x2" lights that won't set me back $300 that would also be great!

Rear fogs are a euro thing, or were back in my vw days..
Usually on the driver side and one red lamp stays lit brighter than the tail lights.

Dust/chase lights are high up and mostly yellow. used so the guy behind you doesn't run you over in the desert.

I put a S2 sport into the OEM bumper on it's own circuit/switch; I use it for backing up, and setting up camp at night.

Rear facing fog lights are typically on vehicles on the passing side of the vehicle, they are brighter than the tail lights and are found on lots of euro vehicles like mentioned above and are there for added visibility in foggy weather, similar to the function of the forward facing fog lights.

The problem is the lights you want aren’t designed to be run as rear fogs on public roadways. It’s the same thing like when people run plain LED cubes as front fogs and think that’s all fine and dandy when really they are just blinding everyone on the road.

I’d just make sure they aren’t overpowering is all I’m saying.

Agreed. From what I just learned, they are supposed to be approximately the same intensity as the STOP light.

I completely understand the concerns with people saying they're not supposed to be super bright, but the Rigid site markets them as being designed to have a hi and lo function and to be used for that purpose so, if I wired them in the hi mode and ONLY use them in inclement weather situations, I can't see how this would be an issue.

Hmmm. I read "BackUp Lighting". Quite a big difference from the DOT standards of tail-lights.

Ya that looks better. Not sure where you got that wattage specification from? Maybe I'm not seeing it. But surely can't be almost 50W.

If I were you and really wanted to do this, take another look at the trailer lighting website that I posted earlier. I think the STOP light is only 9 watts? You could simply add a STOP Light and connect it to just about anything you want. And be perfectly legal.

If your in front of me with a 50w lamp, your going to need 5 more. I'm going to give you the full 300w.
