Rear Hidden Hitch Bumpers (not high-clearance)

Yes.

The are marks scribed on the back of the bumper. Mine had punch marks, but I chose a slightly different mounting height. As I wanted the plate as high as possible.

Take your time and be certain before you drill.

 

Still loving mine. Took one very hard hit on my last Offroad trip and the bumper was solid, but more importantly, I only hit once, when I used to smack the bumper constantly.

Huge improvement in departure angle. Game changing.

 

Huff... after a long day if disassembling, un bolting, re-bolting, reassembling, and wiring... done.

Not much to show right now, aside from my super secret reverse lights button and new Rigid SR-Q's.

Fully installed. Pretty happy with the fit. Couple finish issues, but that is being dealt with. Biggest headache was disassembling the old bumper and wiring up the lights.

Only criticism I have on the construction is about the shackle mounts. Wish they used 3/4" plate instead of 1/2". My SSO slimline uses 3/4". Minor complaint, so not a huge deal.

maybe i’m missing something but what are some actual useful purposes people are using the RCI rear bumper lights for? i’m debating just using the steel plates rather than getting the lights, sure the midnight ones look badass but what do we really need to light up so much behind the truck that the reverse lights or bed light doesn’t???

 

You don’t need more light, especially with the back up camera. I plan on wiring mine as area lights on a separate switch to illuminate camp along with some lights i’m going to put on my rack facing sideways.

I think I only got them, truthfully, because I think they look cool. Guilty as charged!

 

anyone know how much tow capacity you lose by installing one of the hidden receiver style bumpers? Still would like to tow a trailer if needed, considering these brands for upcomnig mod. Thanks

The issue is not many companies are going to go through the rating process for a bumper. So no good answer on how much rating is lost, although I would assume there is some. A receiver hitch is pretty dang strong for towing because of it's design. Where the structure of most aftermarket bumpers are designed to recover from the d-rings and take a hit only. Also, you have to think about the need for a longer drop hitch with a hidden hitch bumper compared to a receiver hitch, and those change capacity (and leverage on the mounts) as well. With these truck's tow capacity being around 6,000lbs it's a lot different than dealing with say a Jeep Cherokee's 2,000lb capacity.

We don't have plans for a standard clearance hidden hitch bumper, but we will probably be making a high clearance one. I will say that I've wheeled my truck some pretty serious places with the factory hitch and all I've managed to do is bend the chain hanger on the driver side.

 

I would recommend checking out @Mobtown Offroad rear bumper and it’s internals, and how the hitch is designed. They basically built a hitch and added a bumper around it. It’s incredibly strong.

Honestly from those photos, it looks like the Mobtown one will be the closest in strength to having an actual receiver hitch.

 

Would you guys consider an option to not have the back up sensor holes drilled on the Strike? I have a 2017 Off road without the sensors.

 

We only offer it one way so we don't have a ton of part numbers. Also inevitably, there is a mixup where we send out the wrong version and that costs us a ton of money to correct (shipping both ways) so we chose to go with the block off plugs. They really do look seamless once installed, however.

Yes sir, that's CBI's offering for the hidden hitch bumper. The only other option from CBI, as far as I know, is their high-clearance bumper, which requires cutting of your bedsides.
