Hello all. I have the wheels off my 2007 Tacoma (2nd gen) to do some badly needed undercoating and cleanup/inspection. My questions is regarding the rear leaf springs as in the picture above. The truck was previously my dad's and I have only had it about two years after he passed away and don't have much info on previous maintenance/repairs. My understanding is that there was a recall on the rear leaf spring set-up from this era as there was a risk of the spring coming apart and taking out brake lines and possibly the gas tank. I also learned that if you inspect your rear leaves and there are 3 spring brackets (per symmetrical side of spring) instead of 2, then you have had your springs re-called. Based on the pic above, it would seem the springs have been replaced as part of the recall. However the brackets for the lowermost leaves don't connect circumferentially (as in pic). Is this normal? Is the lower bracket only to prevent horizontal leaf movement relative to the leaves above? Or did the brackets have a bolt that has broken off? Both sides of the vehicle are the same. Thanks a lot for any thoughts and guidance. IMG_8010.HEIC.jpg

I can't speak to the recall on 2nd Gen springs or what originally came on them, however your 3+1 leaf springs looks like typical 3rd Gen stock springs to me.
The 2 u-shaped brackets under the bottom overload leaf are there to keep the upper leafs aligned straight.

You can call Toyota and see if the recall was done with your VIN. If you can find the paint ID on the leaf, that will also say if it's done. I think mine is CD, but I can't remember.
