I had the same issue. both of my springs broke and in the process sheared a Brake line. Can you imagine the ride I had to work. Thank God it is a standard. Got an e-mail into the dealer about replacing it which should have been done before I bought it. Fingers crossed. p.s. I don't haul anything over a few hundred pounds and not that often.

How do we get Toyota to man up and start fixing their mistakes? People go to the car reviews and see that toyota is a great truck. This is my second and the first one started rotting out from under me. They offered me $300.00 for a trade in when they ALREADY knew about the rust problem. I got so mad I parked the truck in the yard. 2 years later they did a recall. How many people have been duped by the reviews and then ripped off on these known defects??? Where is the accountability?

It looks like Toyota has finally heard the call from the masses about the broken leaf springs...... as of September 29, 2014 Toyota issued a recall for '05 - '11 4x4's and prerunners. I just got my notification in the mail about the issue. Every spring I haul a yard of top soil which pretty much maxes out the suspension without any problem, I even went across a scale with 2100 lbs with out a problem..... boy was I surprised when I got my way-scale print out.

Keep an eye on your mail boxes for your recall notice

I finally got the letter but it says they are waiting for a solution. I'm guessing it'll just be a simple clamp to hold the leafs together

There is a recall coming out soon in Canada. It is posted on Transport Canada's website but not release yet according to the local dealer. If I remember correctly, it covers 06-12 with cracked or broken rear springs

Nobody can tell you whether or not they'll break.

If Toyota is offering free replacement springs - take advantage of it while its available.

    This.

It comes from Toyota itself. If your mailing address isn't current with your dealer or with Toyota itself, it may not show up.

Because they haven't started implementing it yet. My truck was listed on the website weeks ago and long before I got a letter. The letter was a PRE - Notification (so to speak). In the PRE letter, it says there will be another letter to let you know when the remedy is available. Or, contact your local dealer. You'll know (by what they say) that they're ready or not.....

Between this recall and the frame recall - the dealerships are clueless. I had briefly asked my own local tech writer about the frame and I could tell just by his response...he was still stuck on the 1st gen frame recall information. I just let him talk..... So yeah....they're soooo not ready yet.

Granted...If you've broken one - take it in immediately and have it fixed. There's enough information out there to prove to your dealership to fix your springs for free.

I got my recall letter the other day. Looks to apply to 2005-2011 4×4 and PreRunners. I'm going to check once an official recall letter is sent about getting reimbursement for upgrading my rears to an aftermarket leaf pack. If they want proof, I will bring the old ones in that's rusted sitting somewhere outside in the backyard. I may even sawzall a crack line or two for good measure.

My leaf springs are fine, but I just got a letter in the mail about them inspecting them and/or replacing them.

According to the dealer, that's what they were told by "corporate" to do for snapped springs as the "remedy"

Took about a week of them talking to "corporate" to get the okay and to get the parts in.
