I've been getting all the recall notices about the rear leaf springs. I finally got a remedy notice the other day in the mail. So I call my local dealership to schedule this repair and the Service Advisor tells me they have to look/inspect the leaf spring first and not all need replaced.

I have the notice from Toyota saying my leaf springs should be replaced at no cost to me. If the dealership comes back and says my leaf springs are not included in the recall should I press them on still replacing them?

My understanding is they will replace them unless you already did at which time you will have to fight for reimbursement. If you got a remedy letter and have your original springs they must replace them at no cost. If they won't try another dealer if you have one nearby and report their sorry asses to Toyota and let them know your intentions. I live in Pa. and have not received my remedy letter yet. I called the nearest Toyota dealer this morning and asked if I could schedule an appointment for the leaf spring replacement recall and the seat belt(access cab) recall and they said yes. The lady said I would need to leave it because both will take too much time and they will give me a loaner to use until they get it done. Not one word was said about an inspection. I have the original 3 leaf packs on my '09 (sagging) and I fully expect to drive away with a new 4 leaf pack. I will settle for no less. Remedy is now available for Phase 3 CAT region. 18 months after first recall letter it looks like it might get done. Many will have to wait even longer. Not impressed with Toyota's response to this problem.

The same thing happened to me. I just bought a 2010 and had not gotten the letter but I knew about the leaf spring problem. So, I went to the dealer. showed him the VIN and asked if there were any open recalls. He said "yes" and scheduled me for the springs. After having the truck all day they called me at 4 and said they'd have to be ordered. Now I've got another appointment next week for the job.
I think they must be short on spring inventory and if they take a look and you've got a cracked or broken spring your going to get the job done immediately. If your springs look OK, they're going to put you off a couple weeks. "The squeaky wheel gets the oil."

i work at toyota and you have to see how many clips are on the springs if you only have 3 you will get new springs if you have 4 or 6(tsb springs) then your fine and the recall doesnt apply. if you had your frame replaced then you already have the updated parts installed

This is what happened to me, called another dealer and I'm scheduled for this weekend.

As for deciding if they need replacing or no, I think that's bull honkers. The letter doesn't make any distinction between levels of spring recall, it says you WILL get new springs. I don't under how Toyota can tell you you're fine if the letter says you aren't?

I believe also that the 3 leaf are the problem friend has 2008 leafs are fine and he loads his up all the time. But a broken leaf is a broken leaf.Mine cracked the middle ones on both sides both slid to rear shackle didn't know til I was luging everything up.

yea the problem is the 3 leafs they only have two clips which allows the leaf to come out and hit the tank

Does this happen mostly when the truck is loaded heavy with something or it could happen at any time?

I've got the cheap 3 leaf 3 clip setup. I've received bulletins for a frame inspection which I've ignored, because I know the frame is fine. Isn't that campaign over at the end of March?

Got my new springs today, and while they are better than my worn out crap they are still not great. Brand new, 20 miles on them and with 120 lbs in back they are completely flat. Ill keep these until they are useless and then upgrade to something that's actually good.

I had the same experience as you. Got the truck back from the frame replacement with a new 4 leaf pack. I put 150 lbs of stuff back there and they are completely flat... Forget about my leer cap, they frown with that thing on there.

If i got these with my frame replacement, are these the tsb leafs or not?

That are the tsb springs, 3 plus the overload. This is apparently the best Toyota can do...

Both leaf packs in my truck had the lower leaf crack and snap off at the centre. Both pieces have fallen out. Went to dealer to have recall done was told to sit tight and there should be a fix available in mid fall. seems like bs that I'm to wait this long to get them fixed. Does calling Toyota canada or Toyota corp seem to help?

I'm going in to get my leaf springs replaced on Friday. My plan is to install an add-a-leaf after I get it back from the dealer. Has anyone installed an add-a-leaf with the replacement leaf springs? The new brackets that are welded onto the leaf pack make me wonder if I'll run into issues installing the add-a-leaf.

I just got mine back today from having the recall performed. I'm not impressed and would agree with this statement. These replacement springs appear to have little to no arch, just like my sagging 4 leaf TSB springs from 2009. Here are pics.

Mine are exactly like yours. Brand new 4 leaf pack from my frame replacement and they are flat... useless
