What was the last thing you did to the truck just before the brake lights stopped working?

So my brake lights do work. I don't understand when my running lights are on the brake lights don't work and when there off the brake lights do work. I get conflicting messages from this board. As I said I have 95 tacoma 2 wheel. I'm making it to a flatbed. I'm trying to use led lights. This where I get conflicting messages, can I use LED? or because I have a dual element bulb does that preclude using LEDs. Also someone put trailer light connector on it but they did not use a converter box just tapped into the wires just twisting wires and duct tape. They mostly broke. I took the trailer wiring out and temp fixed the breaks in the wires. Another thing I don't understand is Tacoma uses ground switching instead of switching on the power side, is that accurate? Thank you very much for replying much appreciated

Given the history of your vehicle, I think you’d be helping your and our sanity by making a drawing of what you’ve got.

I have LEDs on my flatbed, it’s totally doable. I don’t believe our taillights are ground switched, you get wires for tail, l/r turn and reverse from the front of the truck, and then one ground for all.

I used a trailer light converter to combine turn and brake for the LEDs since I didn’t have a good way to add amber turns to mine.
