Ok makes sense. Thanks for the explanation.

It matters. Force is not torque. Horsepower is not torque nor force and power is a different concept. Let's stick to torque and speed for now.

Speed and torque are totally different and this is key to understanding differential operation.
Locker = Equal speeds, unequal torques (torque may be equal but is not required and the torque bias can be from 0% to 100%)
Open diff = Equal torques, unequal speeds (speeds may be equal but are not required to be but the average of the 2 output speeds must always equal the diff carrier speed)

    Correct

ONLY equal speed is applied, equal torque is not.

The original statement was 4H vs rear locker. Rear locker binds the rear and the rear axle is a simple, strong unit without many fragile parts and typically carrying less weight and easier to slip to relieve bind. In 4H the entire system binds both front and rear. The front is the more fragile system with CV joints, steering joints, and steering duties and will typically be harder to scrub and relieve bind because it is the heavier end of the vehicle. So rear locked you bind just the rear and in 4H you bind the front and rear. Binding front and rear is worse than binding just the rear. If you want to change the conversation to 4H compared to front locked that's a different story and a new discussion and not the discussion originally started.

I've explained it enough at this point. I've experienced both and dd'd spools and auto lockers. Tight turns in 4wd on pavement is brutal, I don't do it. With the rear locked in 2wd I'll do it. I don't care. ***Just because speeds can vary from left to right in 4H it doesn't mean each side can achieve the ideal speed.*** This is because the open diffs must still operate inside the parameters they're constrained to which is the input speed from the tcase (I'm literally blue in the face from saying this). Since these ideal speeds can't be achieved by the combination of a locked tcase and open diffs you get scrub and bind in 4H. Since you're getting bind in the front and rear parts of the system it's worse than just getting bind in the rear alone.

    Synopsis:
    4wd binds everything. Bad.
Rear locked 2wd binds the rear only. Bad, but not as bad.

Okay nice summary ShimStack. Thanks for enlightening me on the subject.

Because some of the guys in these 4x4 forums are like "I won't turn my 4WD system on until the very last second (and probably too late) because . . . " [shuffles deck] " . . . I might wear it out."

Any progress on the original question?

I just hate shifting into 4Lo with the stupid dial. That’s my reasoning for wanting a locker in 4Hi. Obviously Toyota does it with the 2WD TRD OR’s, so it can be done (that’s aimed at Toyota, not you! Lol)

I am making progress on mine. I'm now on plan C. Similar to what's been done so far but with an indicator light and no power resistor. It will work like having an aftermarket rear locker as far as the truck's ecu's are concerned.
