    Good afternoon gentlemen/women
I have a 2014 Tacoma trd off road, and unsure if the locker is actually working or not, can get it into 4lo but when I press the locker button I only hear the relay under the dash click, I don't have a light on the cluster (burnt bulb?) And no beeping like when shifting 4x4. If it matters its the 6 speed manual

Thanks in advance for any help it'd be appreciated

Possible your actuator has gone bad/is stuck

That said, my rear locker is kinda spotty as well. Sometimes it engages immediately, sometimes it flashes and doesn't want to engage for a bit. Are you keeping it in neutral before you engage the locker? I believe that's a requirement, and rolling back/forth with some steering angle helps it engage as well in my experience.

You'd think I'd have at least a flashing light on the cluster and or the annoying beep if that's the case but I just bought it a couple weeks ago so not sure what supposed to happen, I could try listening for the actuator with the engine turned off when I get home

It should definitely be flashing if it's trying to engage, unless that dash light is out. Once it engages, the light goes solid.

Turn your steering wheel a little to the left and then right as you creep forward. That will engage/disengage the 4L and RWL many times. Mine was next to impossible to get engaged last year even with moving the steering wheel. This summer I had all driveline fluids changed. I made sure they added RWL fluid to the rear diff. Since then it will go into 4H, 4L, and RWL just fine. I run up to a school or church parking lot about once a month to see if they will all work and "exercise" them. I drive straight on the pavement for like 20 yards. I know you know this but make sure you are in neutral with doing 4L or RWL. Good luck.

So your red diff lock light doesn't flash when you hit the switch?
Did you look under the truck and see if it actually has a locker? Someone could have stuck a switch in it and called it a TRD OffRoad.

    No test before purchasing?

You might not even have one.

Just like a dude that bought a triple locked Land Cruiser only to find out two years later it had no lockers, just a dial installed.

OP, this is what you’ll be looking for.
It is mounted on the rear differential.
    On the drivers side.

It's got the locker, actuator is on the side of the diff. The guy I got it from was a donkey, cruise didn't work and 4lo wouldn't work, come to find out someone installed a nut on the top clutch switch to take up the slack and busted the other one ‍♂️

It 100% has the locker, got home and put it into 4lo and hit the button with engine off can hear the actuator working but no light on the cluster or the switch itself, only got the green 4x4 light and orange 4lo light. Also just found out someone may have done the "locker anytime" mod. In 2wd I pushed the locker button and can hear the actuator. Maybe ill try going on a dirt path and see if the light comes on

I'm actually glad to hear that; no one deserves to be ripped off like that.

Have a look at the wiring by the 4wd ECU and see if there's any mischief going on there.
I don't have much info on the rear locker but I have a writeup on the rest of the 4wd system. The locker is controlled by the 4wd ECU and uses the same strategy with limit switches as the 4wd actuators.

    @Dm93

I think the diff lock indicator switch supplies ground to the light and 4WD ECM. Correct?

Would a bad individual cause this?

It does when the diff is locked but the 4wd ECU should blink the light anytime the locker switch is depressed until the diff locks, then the light should go solid.

Yeah. I haven’t locked mine in awhile.
And when I do, it usually goes in pretty quick.

Weird that the dash light doesn’t come on.
I guess OP could ground (jump wires) on the switch and see if the dash light works?

I guess you could but being he said the locker seems to operate in 2wd I'd suspect someone did some "creative" wiring at the 4wd ECU.

No telling what people do these days.
That’s seems like as good of a place as any to start looking.

Throw it up on some jack stands and in 2wd, try the locker- both rear wheels should spin same way if its engaging AND working right.
