It doesn't have to be slippery, only loose enough to let your tires slip. Like a dirt road.

My thoughts are that t-cases that run that fast might froth or aerate the oil and then you get lack of lubrication and heat build (kinda like if you overfill a diff). Not positive but I'd think it's a good chance. There's also less gear oil and it uses an oil pump.

Severely overfilled diffs can aerate the oil and raise the temps of the diffs You could be correct about the t-case, I was just throwing it out there.

Lol looks kinda aerated at the end but cool video. Just telling you what I was taught at school by my instructor who has set up hundreds of diffs. Which I believe considering the amount of oil being churned and surface area of the gears in the oil when overfilled. Just saying... You can also find some info over on BITOG.

Winch, front hitch, step bars, bed extender, bed step, gull-wing toolbox, tailgate lock, security system, cb radio, etc.
To use the rear lock differential system (off-road or slippery surfaces only), the owner's manual (pg. 194) for my truck (same as OP) says, after first trying L4 (Step 1), to..

Step 2. Be sure to stop the wheels.
Step 3. Press the RR DIFF LOCK switch.
Step 4. Gently depress the accelerator pedal.

It then immediately says to "unlock the rear differential as soon as the vehicle moves."

It continues by saying (pg. 195) the ABS, brake assist system, VSC, TRAC, downhill assist and hill-start assist are all disabled when the rear differential is locked. Given the tradeoff, doesn't appear to make much sense to leave the rear differential locked beyond what's neccessary to get unstuck.

By the way, OP is absolutely right about a sticker on the door saying not to use the locker at speeds above 5mph. Nothing to suggest that's a "translation error" which should instead read "do not engage" above that speed. Rather, the manual very specifically says to stop entirely (step 2 above) before engaging the locker.

It appears some here may be basing their ideas and opinions on outdated information or experiences, not fully taking into account changes to the vehicle and/or equipment.

Sticker is full of shit CYA BS.

What I'm saying regardless of the sticker is that your locker will not implode if you run it above 5mph. What I'm saying regardless of the sticker is that you do not want to try to engage the locker at speeds above 5mph or you risk damaging the shift collar. My advice is worth what you're paying me for it and I won't provide any financial assistance if you brake your shit in spite of what I've said. CYA.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
It says that for a good reason, my old Jeep is locked in the rear and it handles like shit if I drive with it engaged at speeds above 10, it wont turn very good. (turns really wide) Lockers are designed to get you out of trouble, that is the only time I ever used the one in my Jeep, rest the time I wheeled open diff.

Yes, and the owner's manual (pg. 194) elaborates on that brief sticker with "the differential lock system is provided for use only when wheel spinning occurs in a ditch or on a sllippery or rugged surface," along with the warning once again (pg. 196) to not "drive over 5mph (8km/h) when the differential is locked."

None of this seems all that confusing to me - not a good idea to drive quickly or continually with the differential locked.
