Yea, that's leaking a bit much if the oil on that cloth is only after a 15 minute drive. Personally, I'd get it fixed.

It's clearly a class 2 from the pics and if it's like you say after that short of a drive, I'd assume you are seeing spots where you park as well.

Just thought I would chime in here, I work on these things all day long, 5 days a week. I see a few leaks every now and then that are really from the rear main. [NOT COMMON] BUT, be aware alot of folks think its the rear main and actually it is leaking from someplace on top leaking down inside the bell housing making it look like a rear main seal. TRY looking behind the upper side of the engine. Its not easy..

2017 Tacoma off-road. I was hoping it was just gonna be the oil pan gasket but come to find out it’s probably the main seal. Spoke to the dealer they quoted me $1900

Since no one has mentioned it, I will throw out that a clogged PCV valve can cause a rear main seal to fail. If your main seal went be sure to check your PCV valve to.

Look at @TACOTRDPRO1 post just above yours. For 2gs id make damn sure I saw the leak w my own eyes. The dealer service department will tell you what they think, but what happens when they’re wrong?
They still want their money, and more to go on to the next spot they think is leaking.

    BF0F8545-E7AA-4B9F-9846-0AA6F32526CD.jpg Hey guys,
At our shop. We’ve seen quite a few of 3rd gen taco with rear main leak. The actual leak comes from the rear main cover, not the seal.
We reseal the cover and replace the seal.
    Please see attached picture.

I beg of all techs to re-seal the plate during the install, it takes 10 mins.

We learned of this during the 5.7 tsb, lots of rear main plates on those.
