I have been noticing oil smells and some drips on my cross member. Seems to be leaky at the bellhousing and engine, where they meet. I got 51000 miles and it is lifted with 33's hoping dealer don't try and stick it to me here. They are also going to to the rear axle recall.

If you got 51000 miles, isn't it out of warranty

Gotcha. Is that standard for all Tacoma? I thought everything is 3 yr 36000 miles.

    EDIT:
Just looked at the owners manual, powertrain warranty 60 months / 60000 miles. Same for restraint systems. Learned something new today!

    Yeah it will be covered.
At first they tried to say " what leak " basically saying it's ok to go. Just come back if it start a again. I knew this was bs. So i droped down slid under came back out with oily wet fingers. Said this is ok to drive? Then after all these da young adults went uunder and for mainead mechanic he said " yup RMS.. Gotta drop the transmission.

They are giving me a loaner and said it should be done in 2 days.

Honestly I hated the way they made me feel. I paid alot and have always been a good customer. They sersegregated me like i was some race that " didn't belong there" bc i belong to an off road club. And now my modified (kind) ain't welcome there. I should not have had to make a sene to have them service me.

And this all happened AFTER I initially stated oil is burning into cab and makes me sick. It's 1/4 of. 1/4 low on the dip...not crazy low ,but I know oil does not " dissapier " that fast on a newr Toyota motor. Bastards told me ro juat drive it and keep an eye on it. Smgdmfh!

I had a similar fight with my dealership. Went 3 different time before they did the repair. Had to show them the pdf for checking tranny fluid. Turned out to be low. So I called corporate and complained about the service and they gave me the 100,000 mike platinum warranty for free. :D I’m happy now.

Good to hear they're covering it but I'm curious about your lift?? Looks kinda aggressive.

i know my friend that did a 3.5" lift had problems with drivetrain angles and his rear main seal also failed... TWICE. He ended up needing a custom drive shaft because I guess the change in angle was putting too much stress on his bell housing and slip yoke (which also had problems). But to be honest I'm not super familiar with lifts myself most aggressive I've ever done is 2" because I don't like messing with my angles and center of gravity. So made sense to me at the time maybe someone more familiar with suspension mods can confirm is thats an issue.

If it happens again might just need to look into getting your drivetrain angles back in spec, but hope its a one off issue for you.

Yeah. That goes with anyone. Be firm and don't take any shit, some people are lazy and will get away with whatever u let them get away with. Hold them accountable and don't back down. Right is right.

A dealer tried to tell me my diff seepage was "tire shine" :rofl:Never used the stuff on any vehicles in my life. I looked at the scrawny kid like o_O "get the shop foreman or whoever is your boss." Dealers are TERRIBLE to deal with they do this shit every day.

Just ome888 and Dakar out back. Besides.... if it were drivetrain related I would have removed the 33's and such. Rear seal is motor and the tech said it was just faulty gasket at the factory...no driver fault at all.

Nice this makes me rest a little easier I'm planning on doing a similar lift, just seen so many people have random problems once they cross the 3" threshold even after doing "everything right" (needle bearing, control arms, diff drop etc...). Seems like once you change any little angle EVERYTHING is thrown slightly off and can feel like a dike-plugging boy trying to solve them all.

Update ** so I get it back shits leaking worse. Gotta miss more work and more time going back up there and I seriously doubt they know how to do rear main seal. They told me it was the techs first one!!. So frustrating. I read all the bad things about the third gen and thought I was lucky making it to 50k miles with no issues. But now this?.

Does anyone know how to file with Toyota cooperate?

Reviving this thread. Looks like my 3rd gen with 86k miles has this same leak.....Noticed it this evening when I got back from work.. oil on my driveway... checked underneath, and sure enough.. drips coming from the seal.

Most dealerships suck, they want to sell you something instead of service. Just be sure to eat all their donuts and take a pot of coffee to go.
