Just my 2cents. I also have a 2016 SR service truck and my rear oil seal went out at 183,000 miles. It cost me approximately over a $1,000.00 with tax.

why do people go to dealerships for repairs/maintenance? I mean even if you're rich it's such a waste of money for nothing special, there aren't any "special" tools an independent shop couldn't have, and I've personally seen dealership techs rip off customers daily so it's not "honesty". they are only for warranty or recalls in my book. As long as you get a receipt you're good to go for future sales/records or any issues...and even a dealership wouldn't really offer a warranty on that kind of work, as Larry would say, "It's like a cyclops wearing an eye patch!"

 No way that is just to remove the trans and tcase. I have 18 years as a tech and never replaced a rear main on a Tacoma but I am pretty certain that could be accomplished in 8 hours with a lift and air tools.
I am aware some techs inflate the price and since some dealerships pay their writers on commission the writer just goes with it. I would go to a independent. Get a quote stating what exactly what they are going to do. Ask how they replace the seal.

I have a 2007 Tacoma Access Cab, 2WD, 2.7. Dealership quoted me 1086.95 for Rear Main Seal. I only have 95,000 but the truck is 16 years old.

On a higher mileage engine, replace the PCV valve and clean the rear main residue before paying to have the seal replaced.

Many times, crankcase pressure is the cause of the leak. The PCV valve may help stop the leak, if it is stuck closed.

Yep, I am trying that right now. Since cleaning out the PCV valve the leak seems to be going away. I'll pick up a new PCV valve when I get to the dealer. It is so much fun to change, PCV, that I wanted to do it twice anyway.
