    Hi guys,

My rear mirror broke when i adjusted it tonight. Theres a piece of the glass from the windshield came off with the mirror but luckily theres no hole or crack on the windshield from the outside. My truck is still under the warranty. Do you think the dealer will fix it for me? Do you know if i have to replace the whole windshield? Since i cant glue it back the same spot like before. Any thought? Thanks!

Bumper to bumper should mean bumper to bumper.

My mirror is super stiff to move. Feels cheap. Always afraid of this happening. Luckily no one else drives my truck.

Thanks for the info. Glad to hear that. Did the dealer replace your windshield with the oem or after market part? I will call them tomorrow. Thx

I would expect nothing less than OEM if this happens.

    OEM.

Was adjusting mirror and the whole fucking assembly came down. Called the dealer. They explained they'd have to have a manager look at it. It was Thursday, said manager would not be in until Tuesday, blah blah blah.

Politely told them that I was bringing it down. Service rep was waiting for me. Took one look at it and authorized the repair on the spot. Was told it would take four days to get the OEM glass or that they could do aftermarket the next day., Told them I wanted OEM so they gave me a T4R for a loaner.

We also had this happen on our own T4R.....

Is the flaw strong glue or weird glass?

I've never seen glass 'peel' before.

And for all the folks insistent on OEM replacements. You want more of the same?

It's possible aftermarket could be better........... if it could be determined who actually makes it.

Wow, that's good for you. I just got back from the dealer. The service advisor was an ass. He said I did it. He said the windshield is good because there's a piece of glass came off with the mirror. If it's toyota's fault, only the glue came off blah blah all BS. And when the service manager came, he politely explained that he needs to take some photos and send it to Toyota to get their authorization of what to do in this case. I would hear back from them within 24-48 hrs. So we will see

I was told that it's a known issue - a defect in a batch of windshields across several Toyota models from the OEM manufacturer.

As stated above, I was eventually told it was a known issue. The tech said that he had broken several just by attempting to remove the rearview mirrors on various cars. Hopefully, your dealership will get this same information directly from Toyota.

Worked for a Lexus dealer during the launch in '89.. Almost all the LS400's would come back in a few weeks with cracked windshields, don't remember if it was improper factory assy or glass vendor defect though??

The dealer just let me know that they are ordering and will replace the whole windshield with OEM parts on my truck. Thanks for the info!
