Does anyone knows the part # for the rear part of the parking brake cable?
it's the cable that goes from the pivot point under the cab to the bell cranks on the rear drums

    I have a 2000 SR5 2.7l extended cab automatic 4x4

My parking brake is not working properly and I think it might be the cable that is just too worn out or stuck. It's not the bell crank pivots because I just changed them, they're brand new. The old ones were broken

The front part of the cable seems fine, but the rear part definitely has a problem

Make sure those cables aren't rubbing on the tops of the leaf springs. Also, check the little levers
at the backing plates that those cables attach to aren't frozen.

There are also some adjustments that should be done, one at each of the 2 brake backing plates and
one at the lever (underneath the driver-side behind the transfer case).

After the adjustments, then you should check the shoes. Maybe 'de-glaze' them.

Just what is your cable not doing??

What happens when you pull on the e-brake handle??

    Are the rear brakes adjusted??

well, it works and doesn't work. Sometimes I pull the handle and I can spin my wheels (the car is currently help up by jacks), which means it is not working. Also the handle is sometimes extremely hard to pull and sometimes there is no tension on it at all when I pull. Same for when I press the button and turn the handle, sometimes it slides on its own into its disengaged position, or sometimes I have to force it down a bit. Also does not fully disengage sometimes, so I have to go shake the cables above the rear diff to disengage it

about the rear brakes, yes I think they are adjusted. The rear brakes were not working since a very long time (because of bad rear prop. valve) They now work again and they seem perfectly fine. Didn't do any adjustment or anything, so I guess if they are fine, they are already adjusted?

the cable seems to be stuck inside the black sleeve it's in. I slightly slid the rubber boots off and it's full of black goo (grease?) and I even tried to send a bit of compressed air through it but nothing comes out.

it's a tension problem. Sometimes I do have tension, sometimes I don't and when it manages to get some tension, it has problems releasing it

the cables are not rubbing on the leaf springs and my levers and pivots on the back plates of the drums are brand new. Installed and adjusted them yesterday. The pivot near the transfercase didn,t need adjustment, it was fine

I didn't change my brake shoes, because they are like new, no wear at all. As I said, the rear brakes were not working sine a very very long time. I guess the former owner got his brakes serviced without knowing they didn't work on the rear. The drums have no signs of wear either

Try putting some Triflow lubricant on the metal cable where it goes into the sleeve. That might help loosen things up.

As the use of the Parking brake keeps the rear shoes adjusted if it does not work or get used

    Rear cable is # 46420-35542

    But double check

Yes I did spray some lube inside, but it didn't do anything

I think the owner before me never used his parking brake, which caused the cable to go bad. Also, the rear brakes were not working since a very very very long time, so it didn't help either.

    thanks for the part number!:):)

I have a similar problem but it seems I am missing the large sping that pulls the driver side cable...

any ideas where I can find a replacement?

    thanks all

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Everything is attached to the cable.

Has your cable been modified in some fashion. Like it broke as was cobbled together rather then replaced?

The center pivot in the rear needs to be free to move.

Thank you for your help! I am a real Newbie...

I think the center pivot is frozen/rusted...
    upload_2023-11-1_12-18-35.jpg

    cables seem fine...
The passenger side works well...just the driver side doesn't move to advance the auto-adjuster

That sure looks to be the case That has Nylon Bushings on the bolt and a lock nut so that nut and bolt is not tight the lock nut keeps it together.

That has not moved in quite some time

Perhaps search for the year Tacoma you have Rear parking brake pivot it should get you close.

Any of the Factory Service Manuals also would have pictures as well.

    Good Luck.
