You can insert a correctly threaded nut into the drum face and that will pop it off. Nothing a wire wheel brush on a drill and some black paint wont fix!

They all do try it at about 100K it will pull the threads out before it comes free.

Ah, I just serviced my brakes at 160k with no issues... I did however, utilize an impact gun on said nut!

I live in Maine I have owned 5 from a Hilux up of these things I owned a foreign repair shop more of these things pulled the threads out of the drum than came off easily. Some I have had to drill small holes in the drum at the axle hub then heat them with a torch to get them off. But I'm glad you had no issues.

Dang that really is a bummer. I haven't had too many issues with drums down here in Texas. We have a dealership/car shop that has been running for 30+ years and I've never experienced any drums seized that badly! I hope you have smoother drum maintenance coming your way in the future!

Rear brakes are one of those things where I hand my service advisor the keys and drink coffee until they call my name to tell me its ready. Not my forte.

Great advise. I put thousands into my 07 and never thought about the frame much until I heard about the recall last June from a friends teenage son who was looking to buy a Gen 2 Tacoma. He said he was leery due to the recall. Thankfully I now have a new frame due to him alerting me. I did not receive notifications on the frame recall. So CHECK OUT THAT FRAME NOW!!!!! Get it to a dealer yesterday if you feel there are issues.

Paint the drums red. Adds character & it gives your truck character

@kmkopp2011 , you can edit the title of the tread so your noobness isn’t so evident.

To do this correctly, you would change “rotor” to “drum”

I bought the rock auto centric rear drum brake kit that came with the brake cylinder, brake drum (that rusted part) and brake shoes.

I have about 135,000 miles, and luckily I had the set in my garage ready to change. One cylinder blew and leaked brake fluid on one side and I lost like 80% braking power. It may be time to at least check and inspect it.
