    Hey,

I drive an '02 tacoma that's been well rusted by Vermont winters – it's getting near the end of it's life with frame rust, but the engine still runs strong with 193k, so I'm trying to do everything I can to keep it alive. Recently my downstream o2 sensor fell off while driving. Not a functional issue, but I feel bad for my neighbors who have to hear it rolling in late at night.

Anyway, after hearing it burst off I stopped and saw that the gasket had fallen off and the sensor was dangling by its wiring. I've looked extensively around the internet for answers but all I've found is sensors that have plugs under the body, like the upstream sensor. Following my wiring up I found that it goes up into the cab without any plug.

What's my best course of action? Can I wire a plug in? Or must I follow the line up into the cab and take my shifter apart to find the plug?

The old sensor looks pretty rusted and broken and I know that diagnosing my CEL told me that it was broken o2 sensors, my mechanic said it wasn't a problem and to leave it alone, so I suppose another option would be to buy a new gasket and nuts and put the old sensor back on simply to quiet the exhaust.

    Any suggestions?

Here's where the wiring goes into the cab (no plug was found after removing the rubber fitting):
