I agree with this. Best case scenario you get a stiff ride. Worst is catastrophic spring failure.

If you flipped your overload you absolutely will break your springs in short order. The stock leafs on these trucks are trash for off road performance, but they are well engineered for their real purpose (carrying loads safely).

Well fellas, while i respect your opinions.... I'm sorry,I've been doing suspension on trucks from low riders to mud trucks for 20 something years.my truck rides exactly like it did before I flipped the helper spring.doesn't ride harsh or anything like that.I have beat the snot out of this truck since then and countless miles loaded.and yes it gave me almost 2 full inches of lift.Justbtake a look at every other leaf pack on other trucks.the helper spring is faced with the arch UP not down.I personally think this was a mistake by Toyota that nobody caught.either way, thanks for the input on my impending doom.

Those pesky engineers don't know much. You're probably right, I'm surprised they didn't recall all these improperly designed leaf packs. Maybe you could cite your experience and write up a quick TSB! /s

No need to be a smart ass friend.I was just simply saying that the way Toyota made their springs is ass backwards.and we all know that most "engineers" have no practical mechanical sense.I work for some of the top engineers in my area....they are a bunch of over educated morons.

I think that this can be safely ignored.

But hey,I've only been doing this since before most of y'all were driving.my trucks are purpose built by me...with my hands....I don't buy off the shelf parts and have somebody install em for me.I know how to make things work and how to make them work well

Because people who make gross generalizations like "engineers have no practical mechanical sense" and "they are over-educated morons" usually don't have very much useful to say.

No, but I do have an degree in philosophy, and can spot a logical fallacy a mile away.

I am an engineer who wrenches on his own rides...I wouldn't ride in yours. Maybe I'm just "over educated"?

Agreed.but this thread wasn't started for anyone to question what I do.it was a simple advice thread looking to see if anyone else had run into this problem and had a solution. Sorry if I rustled your over educated jimmies.

Run a longer shock, extend your bumpstops, take your own measurements.

So,being an engineer you should know that the "spring" mechanism is just that...right? Its not a "bumpstop"

Of course I know a spring isn't a bumpstop, that why I suggested you extend your bumps when you install longer shocks.
