I just noticed this with the rear shocks, the rear passenger shock is installed forward in front of the wheel, while the drivers side rear shock is installed towards the back of the tire.

Is this right? I never noticed that before. Only thing that I've had done was the wheel bearing on the rear passenger tire since I've owned the truck brand new.

That's normal , it is designed this way to prevent axle wrap

That is not normal. Someone obviously removed the mount for one shock and re-welded it behind the axle. You need to remedy this immediately by selling your truck. Sorry that was too easy, but like everyone has said its normal and most trucks have it this way.

This is normal and it's the same on my 1993 Yota Hilux.

normal, but not for axle wrap, to help mitigate wheel hop due to axle wrap... no shock is going to prevent axle wrap on a leaf sprung truck.
