Based on Toyota specs, the rear of my 2003 DC4WD SR5/TRD has only dropped approx 0.17" over the course of 250k miles. Pretty good I'd say. I believe I can get away with HS 3-leaf progressive AAL rather than complete pack replacements. What do y'all think?

With 250k miles, your springs are definitely probably at the point where they should be replaced if they are indeed stock. Do you have any pictures of how they look currently? That would help to identify if they are indeed sagging much or not.

I wouldn't recommend putting an AAL on already sagging springs, because it will just put all of the strain on the brand new AAL. However, if your springs truly aren't in bad shape (if they have maybe been replaced before) then you might be alright.

I agree with @03 NIGHT TACO adding an AAL will just wear it out quickly. Can always get them re-arched pretty cheap I think but wear wise it would be best to get the opinion of someone that builds them. Try giving atlas spring a call they are more than you are looking to spend probably but great guys to talk to and give you the best options regardless if you buy with them or not.
