There is no sway bar, or track bar on my 18 sport DCLB. Just crawled under it.

    FTFY:

Also, track bars feel like shit, IMHO. I can feel the rear being pulled left and right when you go over bigger whoops with them.

Leaf springs don't need track bars as they have a lot of lateral stiffness.

To be clear, my 2018 TRD Sport 4x4 ACLB came from the factory with no rear stabilizer bar or sway bar installed. Went to the mat with dealer & Toyota. Guess it was a draw.

Yep. Been under there since my first "mod" was properly torquing the U bolts.

I think what the OP is looking for, with some back story is this:

He noted that he want to plunk in a 1,300lb slide in. Gonna need more than a sway bar though.

The horizontal rod connecting axle to frame/body is called a panhard rod and it keeps the vehicle centered above the axle. I've never seen one on a leaf spring vehicle because that job is done by the leaf springs. They become necessary with a coil spring setup.

I wish I knew what Toyota was referring to, but I guarantee they aren't suddenly using a panhard rod on a leaf spring pickup. Maybe a factory sway bar on the 2018? Anybody with a 2018 have a pic? They say the front has a stabilizer bar as well. Sway bar is the only thing that makes sense because it's really the only part that can even BE common to IFS and solid rear.

Have installed a Hellwig sway bar & TORTUN4 Timbrens. Still modding truck and have not yet attached the camper. Coming from a 2001 Taco that had same suspension mods along with an added leaf, Icon front & Fox rear. Stiff ride.

I have nothing again Fords, in general, but I am uncomfortable every time I ride in my boss's F-150, front or rear. It feels like a condo is rolling down the road. I can't imagine what an F-250 or F-350 would feel like as a DD.

Man, you are going to be double the payload. That is not safe. I don't care if you weld on steel I beams to your chassis. Tacoma's just aren't made to handle that kind of weight. Not even Tundra's!

It sounds like you are set.

I like the stiff suspension of my Sport on smooth pavement, but that front swaybar was just too much on anything uneven, esp offroad. It feels properly good now.

You should get a nice ride with the camper in. I hear you about riding empty!

I spent quite a bit of time with an F150. One of the newer ones. They're pretty nice. Loads of room. But they are big. 3/4 and 1 tons, even bigger. I would not want to DD one, either. But if I were the OP, getting a slide in, I'd get a 250/350 for sure. Tacoma's just aren't made to carry that kind of weight.

My experience is 180,000 trouble free miles hauling same camper on a 2001 Taco TRD OR ACLB. Been everywhere in the lower 48 and two trips to Alaska. YMMV.

Yeah. I like what is on paper for them, but just too much. But then, I grew up wishing for a Chevy LUV 4x4 / Courier / Toyota / Mazda Pickup. My Dad always wanted one, but never pulled the trigger.

I drove a full size many times and just never bonded. With the Taco, it was instant.

I always thought that the Xrunner was the only tacoma that came with rear sway bar from the factory.

I've never seen a Toyota branded/marketed sway bar for Tacomas which would be that 48812 in the parts drawing.

I will say though that the TRD sway bar for the Tundra was one of the best on-road modifications that I made to that truck when I had it. Virtually eliminated body roll. Yes - it did lead to oversteer under throttle but it made the chasis basically neutral

    Nice find.

Here are the Model Numbers for 2017:

    Capture 3.jpg

Looking at that leaf pack, could GRN225 be the 2nd Gen Xtreme?
