He's talking about the panhard rod not the stabilizer bar. Solids axle leaf spring suspension may or may not have a stabilizer bar AKA sway bar AKA anti-sway bar. They will almost never have a panhard rod since the leaf springs take care of that job.

I’m aware of what he’s talking about.

He commented regarding sway bars in his second and third sentences and then mentioned leaf springs.

And, I commented on sway bars and leaf springs.

Interesting. I remember adding the biggest bar I could in my VW GTI to eliminate as much articulation as I could. For me it induced oversteer to a vehicle designed to understeer. I’m trying to picture how a stabilizer bar which pivots on both ends changes body roll. I guess I can see it essentially pulling the inside wheel up as g forces push the outside down.

But my biggest point was to keep novices informed of what it actually is so they don’t learn the wrong terminology.

I did the same with our old saab (SAS 7/8in bar). It was a huge improvement and didn't affect the ride on uneven pavement. The stock one was a coat hanger that I could flex in my hands.

There is a lot of terminology confusion going on.

The OP was asking about a rear swaybar / anti-roll bar. It seems that Toyota also calls it a stabilizer bar.

The panhard bar / track bar (double pivot) was brought up. I only keeps the rear axle centered in a coil spring setup. It might also help with weak leaf springs, like first gen Caravans. It does nothing to help with cornering.

:rofl:Ok, everyone go out and look for your rear sway bar while you are also trying out pushing your Qi button down for 5 seconds to see if it switches to fast charge mode.

Point is that Toyota clearly stated that a "stabilizer bar" is standard on all Tacos when indeed they do not even manufacture one. Response from Toyota was "so what?" also said that they had no intention of correcting the publication error. Dealer stepped up and did the right thing, comped the install of my Hellwig swaybar(Timbrens included). FYI.

I get it, but half the people here think they have a limited slip differential too.

My 12yr old Daughter just told me this week that she loves 60s Mustangs and T-birds. That floored me because she had no interest in cars to this point.

I'm gonna stoke that spark as best I can.

Leaf spring super duty's and excursions have a front track bar, forces the axle to travel in a sideways arc to match the arc of the drag link to prevent bump steer. It's not that unheard of on a front leaf sprung vehicle

Edit: I have an 18, no rear sway bar or even a provision for one

You know what is funny is when my parents bought it in Cali in the late 70s, it actually did have that same hitch. Also interesting is that it had black Cali tags when we got it. That color is super rare. They didn't make many of them.

There is indeed no provision for a sway bar on an 18. Have to drill the frame.

The brochure picture (2018 showing the rear underside and talks about the locking differential) clearly shows no bars of any kind.
And just to be sure, I took pic of my 2018 Sport underside.

If they're like the 4Runners, the mounts are welded on. Either way, though, it shouldn't be hard to bolt or weld on the mount. I don't see the point, though.
