I'm up in the snow right now. My drivers side rear tire is locked up tight... I can only move in 4 low and it's dragging that tire. What is going on??

Will it move in reverse? Do you have a locker / e-locker by any chance?

Base model. No e-locker. Taking the wheel off right now. Gonna beat on it with a rock to try and free it up.

Hoping you don't have something seized up in the rear diff. I'm no mechanic but not sure what else would keep that wheel from spinning, unless the left rear brake got clamped and won't release.

Got it. The brake must've been seized up. Thanks for the help..... Anyone else have this happen to them? Any way to prevent this from happening in the future?

Once you get back to town safely, and perhaps after the holidays, might not be a bad idea to have a brake technician pull that drum open in case it's needing repair. Would really suck to have that sucker seize up while you're hurtling down the highway.

I had this happen on my right rear a couple times off road. It was right after I disengaged the ebrake, but it didn't release. I had to put the ebrake back on, drive in reverse slightly to force the tension off the brake and then disengage it again and the wheel freed up. I was worried it would happen often and become a problem but it has only happened once since the original incident, which was about 4 years ago.

Yeah that's probably a good idea... This truck rarely goes above 40mph though. It's getting long travel in the coming weeks and a new setup in the rear so I might just wait until I have it all torn apart to address the issue. Thank you for the input I was freaking out up here in the woods haha

Sounds exactly like what happened to me. Stopped for a pee break, pulled the e brake, got back in the truck and it wouldn't budge. Judging by your experience it's not too big of an issue?

I'm interested to see what is found when you crack that drum open. Please let us know and good luck with the suspension install!

It hasn't been for me. When I'm offroad I set the ebrake if I'm on a hill and I get out of the truck (for obvious reasons). It seems to only happen when im on a downhill slope because the weight of the truck bears forward on the brakes. I usually park on an uphill slope so I can see what's over the hill instead of cresting and descending the other side blindly. For whatever reason that doesn't seem to cause an issue and since I rarely park it on a downhill slope it hasn't been a big issue. I should also note that more often than not, it doesn't happen, even on a down hill slope.

I get it bro. I was on a stretch of shelf road the first time and I had to drag the truck past a washout before I could even try to figure it out. I was a bit worked up too. Lol

Has it ever happened after using the normal brakes?? If it only happens after using the e-brake under certain circumstances, I might not worry about it too much.

It hasn't for me. And I've done quite a bit of wheeling in this truck over the past 5 years.

Perfect. Thank you so much for your help. Sounds like it was just a fluke. I'm not gonna worry about it too much and if it happens again I'll know how to fix it. It's so nice having a community of Toyota owners that are so willing to help others

I had a similar thing happen many years ago with an older toyota pickup. I was driving through snow and lots of water and slush on a logging road driving to hunting camp, I arrived parked the truck and engaged the parking brake. A few days later I tried to leave and the rear wheels and parking brake were frozen solid, I had to use warm water to free everything up. Apparently water got into the drum and didn't have time to dry before the temperature got below freezing.
